On November 17, 2023, the Guangzhou Auto Show opened. At this year’s car show, the all-new BJ40 Urban Hunter Edition from Beijing Auto was officially launched, with prices ranging from 179,800 to 219,800 yuan (30900$). The new car is positioned as a rugged off-road vehicle, equipped with a non-load-bearing body and a part-time four-wheel drive system, and can be optionally equipped with front and rear axle differential locks. In terms of power, the new car is equipped with a 2.0T engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The all-new Beijing BJ40 is built on the Beijing Automotive Building Blocks 2.0 platform. In terms of design, it has undergone revolutionary changes compared to the old models. The straight lines have been replaced by more curves, resulting in a more urban visual effect. Compared to the previous generation’s hardcore design, the new model adds a touch of fashion. Additionally, the new car also features frameless doors.
The new car has added many off-road style “clever ideas” in its exterior design, such as the factory reserved position for bull bars and installation holes for wading throats, which are not seen on urban SUVs. In addition, the new car can also be equipped with trailer qualifications and has multiple installation positions for expansion racks.
From the side, the higher body of the car allows people to distinguish its identity as an off-road vehicle. The new car has black wheel arches and added wheel arch illumination lights for outline and reminder purposes. In terms of dimensions, the length/width/height of the car body are 4790*1940*1929mm, and the wheelbase reaches 2760mm. The all-new BJ40 adopts a non-load-bearing body, a trapezoidal structure frame with double longitudinal beams and eight transverse beams, and is equipped with a hidden roll bar. The approach angle of the car is 37°, the departure angle is 35°, the longitudinal slope angle is 27°, the water wading depth is 750mm, and the minimum ground clearance is 230mm.
The lines at the rear are very straight, almost vertical to the ground, coupled with the externally mounted full-size spare tire, exuding a tough off-road style.
The changes inside the car can be described as revolutionary. The intelligent experience has greatly improved, and the three large screens are very in line with the current needs of consumers. The car’s chip uses the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155, which still guarantees the responsiveness of the car’s system. In addition, this car system has also integrated Huawei’s ecosystem, giving it more possibilities for expansion.
In terms of power, the all-new BJ40 Urban Hunter Edition, which is now on the market, is equipped with a 2.0T+8AT powertrain. It has a maximum power of 180 kilowatts and a peak torque of 395 Newton meters. Its 0-100km/h acceleration is less than 10 seconds. It also has a self-developed ATS system, which can achieve 11 driving modes and 20 driving combinations. It is reported that in the future, the new car will also launch diesel and extended-range versions.
