The 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show opened on November 17th. Mercedes-Benz brought several new cars to the show, including the new generation of the domestically produced long-wheelbase E-Class, the Mercedes Vision One-Eleven concept car, the Mercedes CLE coupe, and the Chinese debut of the Mercedes EQA and EQB, as well as the launch of several performance models such as the GLS SUV and the Mercedes-AMG 35, 45, and 63.
The Mercedes-Benz CLE coupe is positioned as a two-door, four-seat coupe, and will succeed the current Mercedes-Benz C-Class and E-Class coupe models, inheriting the elegant body lines of the two-door coupe while offering both hardtop and soft-top convertible options.
In terms of appearance, the Mercedes-Benz CLE two-door coupe also adopts the latest family-style design, with the front headlight shape becoming longer and sharper, further enhancing the overall recognition of the vehicle. The starry front grille style also appears, while the front bumper adopts a three-stage design and incorporates black decorative panels to further enhance the overall sportiness.
The coupe model emphasizes the beautiful and smooth body lines. When viewed from the side, the Mercedes CLE exudes a sense of hidden power. The tail lights are more stylish, with elegant curves that perfectly connect on both sides, and the illuminated shape also reflects elegance. In terms of body size, the Mercedes CLE measures 4850/1860/1428mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2865mm. The base model comes with 18-inch wheels, while the AMG Line model is equipped with 19-inch wheels, and also supports optional 20-inch wheels.
When it comes to the interior, you can find a very familiar design style. The interior design of the Mercedes-Benz CLE maintains the same style as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, highlighting the design concept centered on the driver, with the center console screen tilted 6 degrees towards the driver. The full LCD instrument panel and the large center console screen reflect a strong sense of technology, while the piano lacquer, metal buttons, and details of the air vents further enhance the overall atmosphere. In terms of power, the Mercedes-Benz CLE has a rich power configuration. The overseas version offers the 220d, 200, 200 4MATIC, 300 4MATIC, and 450 4MATIC as options. The diesel engine versions are not elaborated here. The CLE 200 and CLE 200 4MATIC models entering the Chinese market will be equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine, with a maximum power of 150 kW, peak torque of 320 Nm, and 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds. The CLE 300 4MATIC model also comes with a 2.0L turbocharged engine, but the maximum power is tuned to 190 kW, with peak torque of 400 Nm. The CLE 450 4MATIC model is equipped with a 3.0L six-cylinder turbocharged engine, with a maximum power of 280 kW and peak torque of 500 Nm. All of the above power systems are matched with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, and the transmission system is matched with a 9-speed automatic transmission. In the future, the CLE will also introduce a plug-in hybrid version.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQA, as a facelift model, was previously unveiled at the Munich Motor Show, with adjustments and upgrades mainly made to the exterior, interior details, and configuration. The new car features a closed front grille with the latest three-pointed star pattern. In the interior, it is equipped with a new style steering wheel with touch buttons, and the center panel in front of the co-driver also features a star pattern. In addition, the new car is equipped with the latest MBUX infotainment system, and wireless Apple CarPlay will greatly improve connectivity convenience. Furthermore, it will also be equipped with the latest developed cameras to further enhance the vehicle’s ADAS functions.
In terms of power, the new car will offer four options: EQA 250, EQA 250+, EQA 300 4MATIC, and EQA 350 4MATIC. Among them, EQA 250 and EQA 250+ are equipped with a single electric motor, with a maximum power of 140 kW, peak torque of 385 Nm, and battery capacities of 66.5 kWh and 70.5 kWh, with maximum ranges of 528 km and 560 km, respectively. The EQA 300 4MATIC and EQA 350 4MATIC models are equipped with front and rear dual motors, with maximum powers of 168 kW and 215 kW, peak torque of 390 Nm and 520 Nm, and a battery capacity of 66.5 kWh, with a range of 411-459 km.
The new Mercedes EQB also made its debut as a facelift model. The main changes of the new EQB are focused on the front grille, adopting the iconic “star-studded” pattern of Mercedes, significantly improving recognition and luxury compared to the old model. The new EQB will offer four styles of alloy wheels, with sizes of 18 inches, 19 inches, and 20 inches. In terms of body size, the new EQB measures 4684/1834/1654mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2829mm.
In terms of interior, the latest family-style steering wheel has been installed, and the size of the central control screen has reached 10.25 inches. The car’s system is equipped with the latest MBUX entertainment system, which has been improved and optimized for voice interaction. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto will also become standard. In addition, the optional Dolby panoramic sound Burmester surround sound system is available. The new car will come standard with 5 seats, with the option to add 7 seats.
In terms of power, the new EQB 250+ is equipped with a single electric motor with a maximum power of 140 kilowatts and a peak torque of 385 Newton-meters. The battery capacity is 70.5 kilowatt-hours, and the range is 463-536 kilometers. The EQB 300 4MATIC and EQB 350 4MATIC are equipped with front and rear dual motors, with maximum powers of 168 kilowatts and 215 kilowatts, and peak torques of 390 Newton-meters and 520 Newton-meters, respectively. The battery capacity is 66.5 kilowatt-hours, and the range is 386-448 kilometers.
The new Mercedes GLS SUV has made some adjustments to its exterior design, with the inner decorative strips of the front grille being changed to four styles, giving it a more imposing look. This complements the high-gloss black trim on the front bumper, creating a more impactful visual effect. The taillights also feature a brand new three-segment design.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV has been improved in terms of off-road performance, with the addition of off-road technology components and a new underbody protection plate, as well as a 30mm increase in ground clearance. It also features a new “real-time off-road surface image” function, which can display the view of the front path on the central control screen.
In the interior, the new Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV adds multiple leather colors and adopts a new design for the wood trim. Equipped with the latest MBUX intelligent human-machine interaction system, it offers “classic,” “sport,” and “subtle” display styles, as well as “navigation,” “assistance,” and “service” modes, and can be linked to ambient lighting to provide 7 different theme colors. In addition to the seven-seater model, the new car will also have a six-seater model to meet different needs. In terms of power, the Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV will continue to offer two engines. The GLS 400 is equipped with a 2.5T inline six-cylinder engine and a 48V mild hybrid system, with a maximum power of 230 kW and a peak torque of 450 Nm; the GLS 450 model is equipped with a 3.0T inline six-cylinder engine and a 48V mild hybrid system, with a maximum power of 270 kW and a peak torque of 500 Nm. Both engines are matched with a 9-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the new generation Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4MATIC, the new generation Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC, and the new generation Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 4MATIC will be launched, and the power performance of the three models will be “electrified” for the first time, with an upgraded 48V intelligent electric motor system. In addition to the debut models, the Guangzhou Auto Show will also feature the new EQE all-electric SUV, EQS all-electric SUV, Mercedes-AMG all-electric EQE 53 4MATIC+, as well as the Mercedes-Benz C 350 e L plug-in hybrid sports sedan, and the Mercedes-Benz S 450 e L plug-in hybrid sedan, among other new energy vehicles.
