The battery problem may cause the vehicle to catch fire, and Jeep is recalling tens of thousands of Wrangler 4xe vehicles overseas.

IT Home, November 23rd – On the eve of Thanksgiving, Stellantis has issued a recall for some Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid models, advising owners not to charge them and to avoid parking near buildings or other vehicles.

The battery problem may cause the vehicle to catch fire, and Jeep is recalling tens of thousands of Wrangler 4xe vehicles overseas.

Stellantis, the car manufacturer, has announced a recall of over 45,000 2021-2024 model year Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles in overseas markets due to potential battery issues that could lead to vehicle fires. Of the total, 32,125 vehicles are being recalled in the United States, 3,856 in Canada, and 9,249 in other countries and regions. The company has reported eight vehicle fires caused by this issue, with six of the vehicles being in a parked state and charging at the time of the fires. Stellantis has advised owners of the affected Jeep Wrangler 4xe models to continue driving them but to avoid charging and to maintain a certain amount of space when parking. Owners are required to schedule a repair with a dealer, who will then diagnose the vehicle to determine if it is part of the one percent being recalled. Stellantis suspects that these vehicles have a defect and may require a battery replacement. Stellantis has confirmed that this recall is unrelated to last year’s recall of certain 2023 and 2024 model year Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles, which was due to an issue with the assembly of the battery fuse that could cause overheating. In November 2022, a larger-scale recall of Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles was also issued due to a potential issue that could cause the hybrid system to enter a fail-safe mode and the engine to shut down. According to data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Wrangler 4xe can travel 22 miles in pure electric mode.
