BMW recalls 12,197 imported 7 Series cars due to safety risks BMW Trading Co., Ltd. has filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation to recall a total of 12,197 imported 7 Series cars produced between June 28, 2022 and August 22, 2023. The vehicles within the scope of this recall may have a potential safety hazard due to a manufacturing process adjustment by the supplier, which resulted in the steering wheel grounding wire bolt hole not being produced according to specifications. This could lead to abnormal steering wheel grounding connections, causing the steering wheel hand-off detection system to be unable to recognize whether the driver’s hands are off the steering wheel, increasing the safety risk for the driver and passengers when using the vehicle’s assisted driving function. According to the announcement, BMW Trading Co., Ltd. will provide free inspections of the steering wheel grounding connections for the recalled vehicles and, if necessary, will reinstall them to eliminate the safety hazard.
