Rumors have it that luxury cars like the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5 Series are the ceiling for ordinary people, as well as the dividing line between workers and bosses. This makes some sense, as the usual rides for senior managers are these mid-sized luxury cars with prices starting at four to five hundred thousand, and above that are their boss’s S-Class or 7 Series. Now, the all-new generation of the Mercedes E-Class is about to be launched, and pre-sales have already begun, with a price range of 450,000 to 540,000 yuan (75590$). Recently, we went offline to shoot a group of new car photos, to see what changes and highlights there are.
Exterior design: The front of the car looks bold and the peanut-shaped headlights are not ugly in person.
When you see the front badge and grille, it’s the familiar Mercedes-Benz style. Compared to the previous generation, the area of the grille has noticeably increased, bringing a more aggressive look.
When the overseas version debuted, netizens had some complaints about the new car’s peanut headlights, all feeling that they didn’t look good. Is it because expectations were lowered, the on-site effect of the actual car is not ugly, maybe it’s not too photogenic?
The side view is the favorite angle for most people, with elements like a long hood, short front overhang, long rear overhang, and sloping rear end creating a “cigar-shaped” effect that is extremely elegant and classic, with a damn charm.
The hidden door handles are also present, taking a cue from the big brother S-Class.
The concept car’s wheels feature a double five-spoke design in a tornado style, with different specifications for the front and rear. The front tires are 245/45 R19, and the rear tires are 275/40 R20.
The tail light style and the headlight complement each other, both in a wave shape, with a chrome strip running through the top, full of exquisite feeling. Interior design: a luxurious and extravagant atmosphere.
The new interior design of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is similar to the EQS electric car, with an integrated glass design. However, the full LCD instrument panel is separate, and the central control screen and passenger entertainment screen are given a fully fitted glass process, with ambient lighting effects, giving it a high-end feel. Of course, some people also think it’s too oily.
All steering wheels are made of genuine leather. The one shown in the picture is the luxurious style, while the sporty style is more aggressive and has a flat-bottom design.
Shifting gears is a traditional skill of Mercedes-Benz, but I personally feel that the lever is not refined enough, it would be better to have a bit more of a metal texture like the S-Class.
The full LCD instrument panel is typical of the Mercedes-Benz style, with a naked eye 3D function.
The central control screen is 14.4 inches in size and has many popular built-in applications. Watching videos and listening to music online are basic skills. It is worth mentioning that the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class’s car system is equipped with a Snapdragon 8295 chip, with higher computing power and smoother operation, and better performance when handling multiple tasks.
The all-new Mercedes E-Class offers a 12.3-inch entertainment screen for the passenger, a feature that has become commonplace in the current trend of new energy vehicles. Even entry-level luxury models, priced at over 530,000 yuan (74190$), are equipped with this feature. However, for traditional luxury brands, this is a somewhat high threshold configuration.
This storage compartment integrates many functions, such as cup holders, key sensing, and charging ports, and also comes with a cover panel.
The seat adjustment button is placed on the interior door panel, which is a traditional practice of Mercedes-Benz, they consider it more elegant.
This should be a car interior camera, if it only relies on it to achieve fatigue monitoring function, it’s a bit of an overkill, but other expandable functions are still unknown for now. Space performance: wheelbase exceeds 3 meters, seat function threshold is relatively high.
In terms of seat materials, the E260 model uses faux leather, while the E300 model uses real leather. The front seats come with lumbar support, leg support adjustment, electric adjustment, and a passenger boss key. The seat ventilation function is only available in the luxury model and above. The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class has a wheelbase of 3094mm, providing relatively spacious legroom in the rear seats. However, due to the presence of the driveshaft, the middle of the floor is raised, making it uncomfortable for someone to sit there.
The official did not seem to release the volume data of the trunk, but it looks okay. However, the rear seats cannot be folded down, which somewhat affects the expandability. The powertrain remains the same, with some improvements in the parameters compared to the previous model.
The new Mercedes E-Class is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine, available in high and low power versions, with maximum horsepower of 204 and 258 respectively, and maximum torque of 320 and 400 Nm. It also features a 9-speed automatic transmission and some models offer all-wheel drive. During our visit to the store, there was a constant stream of customers coming to see this new car, which demonstrates its high level of attention. With the improved product power of the new E-Class, it should achieve good sales results. With the E-Class and 5 Series both completing their upgrades around the same time, which one would you choose?
