On December 15, 2023, the BYD Song L was officially launched. The new car is another new model in the BYD Dynasty series Song family, positioned as a B-class pioneer hunting SUV. The new car is based on the BYD e-platform 3.0, equipped with CTB battery body integration technology, intelligent electric four-wheel drive, DiPilot intelligent driving assistance, and YunNian C system. The new car has a total of 5 models, with a price range of 18.98-24.98 million yuan.
In terms of appearance, BYD has named the exterior design of the Song L “Pioneer Dragon Face”. The family DNA style has evolved to be more aggressive, with a multi-level X-shaped front face full of sharpness. The “dragon beard” chrome strip connects directly from the headlights to the grille, creating a visual effect with classical Chinese style. The trapezoidal intake decoration at the bottom enhances the front face’s sporty atmosphere. The triangular intake decoration on the sides of the bumper, along with two chrome wind knife strips, further centralize the front face of the vehicle towards the logo, giving it a domineering look. The Song L headlight design integrates the style of the BYD Han, with a noticeably longer and narrower volume. The wing-shaped LED light strip with chrome decoration is embedded in the upper part of the headlight. The headlights use matrix LED light sources for better illumination.
The Song L is equipped with frameless doors and hidden door handles. The body side is outlined with multiple lines of powerful “dragon” waistlines, the window shape is flatter, the body ground clearance is small, and the visual effect of the body has a rare low-slung feeling for a mid-sized SUV. In terms of size, the overall size of the Song L is 4840/1950/1560mm, with a wheelbase of 2930mm, making it the largest in the current Song family lineup.
The roofline of the car smoothly transitions from the A-pillar to the sloping C-pillar, presenting a strong and rugged SUV style. The sloping roofline gives the rear of the car a compact and dynamic look. The new rear design of the car is very aggressive, with many three-dimensional surfaces. The top wing and the adjustable adaptive wing at the end bring a strong sense of speed. The triangular air guide decoration and the bottom diffuser decoration continue to enhance the sporty atmosphere of the rear of the car. The new taillights adopt the family’s “flowing light and auspicious design”, and the recognition is also very high after lighting up.
In terms of interior, the entire central control area of the BYD Song L features a symmetrical double-layer suspended T-shaped design, embedded with vertically arranged air conditioning vents. The full-color dynamic flowing ambient light strip crosses the entire central control panel, with the adaptive suspended PAD continuing to be the visual center of the entire central control panel. The new generation of BYD Heart electronic gear lever also uses crystal cutting technology. In terms of materials, soft plastics and decorative strips, as well as soft leather covering the entire central control panel, the cabin also supports three interior themes: “Wilderness Starry Sky,” “Danxia Morning Light,” and “White Beach.”
In terms of intelligent configuration, the new car is equipped with a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel screen, a 50-inch AR-HUD head-up display with equal projection area, and a 15.6-inch high-screen ratio adaptive floating PAD. The cabin is equipped with a high-performance customized DiLink smart networking system, based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and jointly customized with Qualcomm to support 5G vehicle cabin platform. The system supports advanced functions such as continuous voice recognition and OTA online upgrades.
The new car is equipped with the BYD DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system, which has more than 30 assistance functions, such as high-speed assistance, intelligent navigation, automatic parking, and fatigue monitoring reminders. In addition, the new car has electric control switches inside and outside all four doors, as well as NFC digital keys, Bluetooth keys, and UWB digital keys.
The new car seats feature an ergonomic design and a sporty yet comfortable feel. The front seats are adjustable at multiple angles and have functions such as massage, leg support, ventilation, and heating. The rear seats have independent headrests, central air conditioning vents, and charging ports for mobile devices. The 12-speaker HiFi-level custom Dynaudio sound system, active fragrance system, and scene modes provide an immersive cabin experience for users.
In terms of power, the new car offers a choice of single motor and dual motor versions, with the four-wheel drive version equipped with front and rear motors, with maximum power of 150/230kW respectively; the single motor version has a maximum power of 230kW. In terms of endurance, its pure electric endurance under CLTC conditions is 550km, 602km, 662km. In terms of chassis, the new car features a front MacPherson independent suspension + rear multi-link independent suspension system, and is equipped with the Yunnei-C intelligent damping body control system, with damping adjustment speed in milliseconds.
