The construction of charging facilities along highways is the guarantee for long-distance travel of new energy vehicles. By the end of November 2023, more than 6,000 charging parking spaces have been built at service areas across the country, accounting for 95% of the total number of service areas on highways. A total of 20,000 charging piles have been built at service areas along national highways. It is an important measure to ensure the public’s travel and improve the quality of life of the people. In the next step, we will build a high-quality highway charging infrastructure network and optimize the layout of charging facilities to provide better protection for more electric vehicle owners to travel long distances.

2023 China Automotive Charging and Changing Ecological Conference: Promoting High-Quality Development of Infrastructure

According to reports, the “China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Development Annual Report” has been published six times since 2016, with one issue released every year. It has become the most influential research achievement in the charging and swapping industry, and has been used as a reference for policy-making by national ministries and local governments. It provides important references for industry enterprises and practitioners. A summit and six theme forums were held to promote the high-quality development of the industry. The summit was held on December 19, with more than 100 government leaders, charging alliance leaders, and industry heads gathering to provide suggestions for the high-quality development of the industry.

On December 20 and 21, six theme forums were held to focus on breakthroughs in highway scenarios, promoting infrastructure to rural areas, improving charging service quality, accelerating the overseas development of charging facilities, exploring the application of battery swapping models, and discussing industry hotspots such as vehicle-network interaction models. At the “Highway Charging Facilities Network Construction Symposium,” participants discussed policies, experience sharing, operational status, scene applications, and solutions for high-power charging equipment. At the “High-Quality Charging Service Ecosystem Construction” theme forum, relevant parties comprehensively discussed topics such as the development of power batteries supporting high-power charging, the application of composite materials in high-power charging equipment, the development of high-voltage platform charging systems, and the operation and maintenance services of high-power equipment.

At the “Application Research on Electric Vehicle Battery Swap Mode” theme forum, participants focused on discussing practical applications of vehicle-electric separation in passenger cars, commercial vehicle battery swap technology, storage-charging-swap solutions, and testing technology for charging and swapping facilities. At the “Construction of Rural Charging Network to Support New Energy Vehicles Going to the Countryside” theme forum, hot topics such as the experience summary of charging facilities going to the countryside, policies, and development opportunities in the sinking market were discussed. At the “Exploration and Practice of Overseas Export of Charging Piles” theme forum, in-depth discussions were held on topics such as export certification electrical safety testing clauses for charging facilities, the current status and application of the global composite materials industry, and the high-power charging demand in the European charging and swapping market.

At the “Vehicle-Grid Interaction Mode Research” theme forum, relevant topics such as the research and practice of electric vehicles in ensuring the supply of new power systems, key technologies for large-scale vehicle-grid interaction, and research on the optimization of urban charging networks were discussed. In conclusion, the comprehensive service capability of the charging infrastructure network is becoming the industry’s focus as China’s new energy vehicle scale grows rapidly. The main contradiction in the promotion and application of new energy vehicles has also shifted from “mileage anxiety” to “replenishment anxiety,” and the increasingly prominent differentiated service demands of users will bring about significant changes in the charging and swapping operation market.
