On January 1, 2024, Xiaopeng Motors officially launched its first MPV model, which is based on the SEPA 2.0 platform. There are 4 models available, with a starting price range of 359,800 to 419,800 yuan (59200$).
As the flagship model of Xiaopeng Motors, the Xiaopeng X9 incorporates multiple core technologies of Xiaopeng Motors, featuring an integrated aluminum die-cast body, intelligent dual-chamber air suspension as standard, and rear-wheel active steering. Additionally, it is equipped with Xiaopeng’s iconic XNGP system and the debut XOS Tianji intelligent cockpit system.
The new car is on the market, and various car purchase benefits are naturally indispensable. Returning to the product itself, the Xiaopeng X9 is positioned as a super-intelligent seven-seater and is also the flagship model of Xiaopeng Motors. Born from the SEPA2.0 architecture, the new car has dimensions of 5293*1988*1785mm and a wheelbase of 3160mm.
In terms of exterior design, the Xiaopeng X9 has made significant breakthroughs, departing from the traditional MPV style and focusing more on expressing a sense of technology and fashion. The side and rear designs are also distinctive, with a floating setup and a downward-sloping tail that gives the Xiaopeng X9 high recognition from the side and rear angles. The interior continues Xiaopeng’s family-oriented design, with a simple and minimalist overall style, featuring a two-spoke steering wheel and a large floating central control screen. The highlight of the interior is the intelligent performance, with the debut of the XOS Tianji intelligent cockpit system, paired with one of the most powerful SOC chips currently available – the Qualcomm Snapdragon SA8295P, making it the only MPV model to use the 8295. Functionally, the XOS Tianji intelligent cockpit system can display navigation maps and multiple applications in split-screen mode. Additionally, the new virtual image “Xiao P” has been upgraded to intelligent wake-up, covering a wider range of conversation scenarios and benefiting from the self-developed XGPT Lingxi big model.
As an MPV, space is naturally the top priority. At the press conference, XPeng Motors proposed a claim for the X9 – a usable interior space of 7.7 square meters. First, the first feature is large. Second, the flexibility of the interior space. The third row of the XPeng X9 can be electrically retracted with one button, and the maximum space at the rear of the vehicle can be expanded to 2554L.
As for the “refrigerator, color TV, big sofa”, they are all standard in the entire series. The second row is equipped with a 21.4-inch entertainment screen, and the car also has a hot and cold integrated refrigerator. The second row has independent seat heating, ventilation, and massage, as well as front seat heating, ventilation, and heated steering wheel. In terms of configuration, all comfort configurations of the Xiaopeng X9 are standard across the system, and the differences between different models are only reflected in power, endurance, and intelligent driving hardware.
Most of the above content is the “traditional skills” of MPV. This time, the Xiaopeng X9 also has a “maverick” side, and the MPV also wants to play with control! The biggest highlight is that the active rear wheel steering and dual-chamber air suspension are standard across the board, with a turning radius of 5.4m. This means that the X9 has better flexibility in various scenarios than the general MPV models, despite its length of about 5.3m. At the same time, the dual-chamber air suspension not only allows the body height to be adjustable, but also automatically adjusts the suspension hardness according to the road conditions. It can adapt to various road conditions and suppress the nodding and lifting phenomenon that may occur during braking and acceleration, enhancing driving stability.
In terms of power and endurance, the Xiaopeng X9 comes standard with the all-round 800V high-voltage Sic silicon carbide platform and 3C battery cells. There are two power specifications, with the two-wheel drive model equipped with a 235kW front motor, achieving an official acceleration of 7.7 seconds per 100 kilometers. The four-wheel drive model uses a dual motor layout, with a total power of 370kW and a total torque of 640Nm, achieving an acceleration of 5.7 seconds per 100 kilometers for the four-wheel drive version. For endurance, three versions are available, corresponding to 610km, 702km, and 640km under CLTC conditions, with the 640km version being the four-wheel drive high-performance Max edition.
The difference between the Pro version and the Max version lies in the auxiliary driving system. The Max version uses dual Orin-X chips with a total computing power of 508 TOPS and also has 2 additional lidars on the perception hardware, enabling the capability of assisted automatic driving in urban road sections.
The Xiaopeng X9 has many highlights in terms of space, making it more practical than traditional business-style MPV models. The exaggerated ability to accommodate 5 bicycles in the expanded luggage compartment was also demonstrated at the launch event. In addition, the most significant highlight is the standard rear-wheel steering and dual-chamber air suspension, which fully addresses the pain point of poor flexibility for individual users when driving this large MPV in urban scenarios.
