IT Home reported on January 4th that the annual Dakar Rally is about to begin. Brave participants will drive motorcycles, cars, and trucks across the vast deserts of Saudi Arabia, covering 250,000 square kilometers. The two-week race is one of the toughest automotive events in the world. Audi will participate in the Dakar Rally from 2022 and will send out the RS Q e-tron hybrid team in 2023. Now, as the 2024 event approaches, Audi has launched the Q8 e-tron edition Dakar limited edition model, paying tribute to the Dakar Rally while satisfying the car enthusiasts’ pursuit of ultimate performance and adventurous spirit.
The limited edition model is based on the Audi Q8 55 e-tron sold in the United States, capable of unleashing 402 horsepower in sport mode and equipped with a 106.0kWh battery pack to provide powerful power for the dual motors. Although the powertrain remains unchanged, engineers have fitted the Q8 e-tron with General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tires, increasing its ground clearance by a full 3 centimeters, with approach and departure angles reaching 20 and 26 degrees respectively.
Audi also stated that the new car’s air suspension has been reprogrammed to provide better off-road performance, with a wading depth of up to 30 centimeters. The all-terrain tires make the new car’s 0-100 km/h acceleration time 0.1 seconds slower than the regular model, and the range has been reduced from 581 km to 487 km under WLTP testing standards. The car is offered in three colors: desert-style Sienna Brown metallic paint, black, and gray. The grille trim matches the body color, while the wheel arches and lower body trim are black. When the driver’s door is opened, a projection light will display the “edition Dakar” on the road. The car also offers a decal package inspired by the RS Q e-tron livery. However, the decals can only be applied to vehicles in the mysterious black metallic paint, and the decal package is limited to 99 sets.
The Q8 e-tron edition Dakar also features a dark sun visor, standard roof luggage rack, S line interior package, and optional red stitching. The digital instrument panel also offers three special “Dakar scenes” – desert storm, tire tracks, and sand dunes. Audi says the Q8 e-tron Edition Dakar will be available for order in the first quarter of 2024, starting at around 120,000 euros in Germany.
