Recently, we experienced the limited edition Tank 700 Hi4-T, and its design is truly explosive. With its wide body and numerous carbon fiber accessories, combined with the previously announced pre-sale price of 700,000 yuan (98440$) at the car show, both the product itself and the pre-sale price have generated high popularity and strong discussion for this limited edition model.
But for most tank brand enthusiasts who love off-roading, the slightly flamboyant style and road-biased setting of the limited edition may not be what they want. Don’t worry, the Tank 700 Hi4-T base version is here! What’s the difference between the base version and the limited edition?
First of all, from the first impression, the basic model and the limited edition model are very different. After all, the limited edition has a lot more materials in terms of appearance, and the main core point is that the basic version does not have the original wide body. So if you first appreciate the limited edition model, and then look at the basic version, the latter does indeed have a weaker presence.
Some other differences are the appearance of the sport package. The basic version does not have front splitters, hood decorations, roof decorations, spoilers, and rear diffusers, a total of 6 pieces of carbon fiber decorations. But for users who love off-road driving, this is not a bad thing. On the one hand, it is more simple and rustic in temperament, and on the other hand, if there is a scratch during off-road driving, there will be no additional repair costs for the carbon fiber package. In addition, there are also some differences in the styling of the front bumper and the grille. The limited edition grille has a grid-style arrangement of decorative strips, while the basic version has a through-style horizontal decoration.
The two versions have the same body appearance, but the differences in exterior kits and design details result in significant style variations, and there are also some differences in body parameters. The dimensions of the limited edition model previously experienced are 5110×2122×1986mm, while those of the base model are 5090×2061×1952mm, with a wheelbase of 3000mm for both versions.
The most important difference lies in the off-road performance parameters of their bodies. The limited edition’s front and rear sport bumpers, especially the rear diffuser, will inevitably affect the approach and departure angles. In standard condition, the approach angle of the limited edition model is 22° and the departure angle is 26°. With the body height adjusted to the highest, the approach angle can reach 27.8° and the departure angle is 32.4°.
And this time, the basic version of the car has a 32° approach angle and a 33° departure angle in standard condition. When the body is raised to the highest point, the approach angle can further reach 37.8°, and the departure angle can reach 37.6°. A simple comparison reveals the obvious difference. Even in the highest body height, the limited edition model does not have the same off-road capability as the basic version, so the positioning of the two versions is self-evident.
In other aspects, the base model is also well-prepared for off-road scenarios. The front bumper is equipped with a 12500-pound winch, embedded in the front bumper, and comes with a wireless remote control handle. Users can remotely start it on the way to a safe area to ensure safety. It also reserves space for bumper modification, making it very convenient for later upgrades, without the need to cut the original bumper, providing better protection for the car body during off-road driving and reducing damage after scratches.
At the tire specification level, the base model comes standard with 20-inch wheels, which are not as sporty in design and size as the 22-inch wheels of the limited edition model, but the 60 aspect ratio is obviously a more practical choice. If you don’t go off-road much, you can still choose the limited edition wheel design for the base model.
The Broome Volcano Eye laser headlight is standard on the limited edition model and optional on the base model. The specific optional price may not be known until after the market. The interior experience is top-notch.
The interior was previously shared with everyone in the limited edition real shot. The basic model has no difference in interior configuration compared to the limited edition. The overall design and layout of the interior are consistent, and the materials used are also uncompromised.
In terms of experience, there is no doubt about the overall luxurious atmosphere. The seats, center console, door panels, and interior pillars are all wrapped in genuine leather. The silver trim inside the car is made of real aluminum, and it feels great.
In terms of configuration, all seats in the car support ventilation, heating, 4-way adjustable sleep headrests, and massage functions. The seats have 10 airbags for massage, with 10 massage modes to choose from and 3 adjustable intensities. The front seats also have 2-way adjustable electric leg rests, with no shortcomings in comfort performance and comfort configuration.
The vehicle comes equipped with a full LCD instrument panel, a 16.1-inch central control screen, streaming rearview mirror, and corresponding smart features.
The second-row seats also support 141° stepless electric adjustment. The second-row center armrest is equipped with a separate control screen, which can control comfort options and multimedia functions.
The vehicle tailgate is of the flat-opening type. Compared to the vehicle volume, the luggage compartment space is not outstanding. The main reason is that part of the power battery pack of the Tank 700 Hi-T is arranged in the luggage compartment floor and the vehicle chassis. The purpose of this arrangement is to provide the best protection for the battery and to ensure that the battery is not directly impacted during high-intensity off-road driving.
What are the differences between the basic version and the limited edition inside the car? The most significant difference is that the basic version does not have the exclusive starry sky roof of the limited edition, but the advantage is that the basic version has a sunroof. So the conclusion inside the car is obvious, there is no difference at all in the interior experience between the basic version and the limited edition, whether it is luxury or comfort, it is of a very high standard. As for the starry sky roof, it’s a matter of personal preference and emotional experience. No discount on off-road configuration Compared to the limited edition, the basic version is more inclined towards off-road scenes, so naturally there will be no discount on the mechanical quality level. Equipped with the 3.0T Hi4-T powertrain, matched with a P2 motor located between the engine and the gearbox, this means that the motor torque will pass through the gearbox and transfer case. Structurally, the reason Great Wall chose the P2 architecture is that the P2 architecture is more reliable, with the engine still playing the main role, ensuring continuous power output during off-road crossings. In urban areas, the P2 motor can also achieve peak shaving and valley filling, reducing fuel consumption.
In terms of specific power parameters, the comprehensive maximum power of the Tank 400 Hi-T base version is 385kW, with a slightly smaller comprehensive torque than the limited edition, at 800N·m, and a acceleration of 5 seconds per hundred kilometers. More attention should be paid to the efforts made by the Tank 700 Hi4-T for off-road scenes. First of all, the calibration and development of the entire power system fully consider extreme conditions. Even in the state of battery depletion, it can still have an output power of 265kW. This is also the reason why the Tank 700 Hi4-T chooses the P2 architecture. Another point is the layout of the battery pack, fixed inside the chassis beams and upper floor, which is very different from most new energy hardcore SUVs on the market. The purpose is to maximize the safety of the battery and allow the owner to engage in high-intensity off-road driving with peace of mind.
The transmission matches the self-developed 9AT by Great Wall, with a speed ratio range of 8.84 and a transmission efficiency of 97%.
As for the hardcore off-road hardware, the base version is currently the top configuration of the tank brand, equipped with air suspension and CDC adjustable damping shock absorbers. It is equipped with an intelligent four-wheel drive system + M Lock mechanical lock, with a low-speed torque amplification factor of 2.64, three locks as standard, and the first electronic disconnectable stabilizer bar of the independent brand. It is not difficult to find that the positioning of these two vehicles is distinct. The limited edition is somewhat similar to the G-Class that crosses the city, with a slightly exaggerated appearance and powerful power. The three locks and hardcore body are more of a spiritual totem for the owner; while the base version model experienced this time is obviously more practical and wild, without the constraints of a sports kit. The powerful power and four-wheel drive can be used in various off-road scenarios without hesitation, suitable for players who prefer outdoor off-road.
