On January 11, Mercedes-Benz officially announced the delivery data for the Chinese market in 2023. Key data -In 2023, Mercedes-Benz delivered approximately 765,000 new cars in China, which is on par with the 2022 delivery level, showing a stable and high-quality development trend. -The high-end luxury segment experienced rapid growth, with the Mercedes-Maybach brand and the G-Class off-road vehicle achieving annual growth of 21% and 22% respectively. -The new energy product lineup is rapidly climbing, with a doubling of deliveries for pure electric vehicles and a strong market performance for plug-in hybrid models. -Over 15 new or next-generation products will be launched this year, including the all-new pure electric G-Class off-road vehicle, the all-new Maybach EQS pure electric SUV, the all-new CLE family, the all-new long-wheelbase GLC SUV plug-in hybrid model, and the all-new long-wheelbase E-Class plug-in hybrid model. Facing a complex and evolving market environment, escalating competition, and challenges such as parts shortages in the fourth quarter, Mercedes-Benz, in partnership with its dealers, delivered approximately 765,000 new cars to Chinese customers in 2023, maintaining a high-quality and resilient development in multiple strategic business areas, on par with the 2022 delivery level.

The high-end luxury product lineup is growing rapidly, with the Mercedes-Maybach brand and the G-Class off-road vehicle achieving annual growth of 21% and 22% respectively. The delivery of new energy vehicle lineup is booming, with annual deliveries of pure electric models more than doubling, and plug-in hybrid models once again leading the luxury car market with a significant advantage. In terms of core luxury product lineup, the long-wheelbase C-Class delivery achieved close to double-digit annual growth; the long-wheelbase GLC SUV and long-wheelbase E-Class received high-quality product upgrades.

The president and CEO of Beijing Mercedes-Benz Sales Service Co., Ltd., Duan Jianjun, said, “In 2024, with the launch of a variety of products including the all-new pure electric G-Class off-road vehicle, the all-new Maybach EQS pure electric SUV, the all-new CLE family, the new generation EQA and EQB SUVs, the high-end luxury product lineup will be further electrified.” Legendary vehicle G-Class off-road vehicle’s first pure electric product – the all-new pure electric G-Class off-road vehicle, the first mass-produced pure electric vehicle of the Mercedes-Maybach brand – the all-new Maybach EQS pure electric SUV, and the all-new AMG pure electric EQE 53 SUV will be unveiled later this year, further advancing the electrification of the high-end luxury product lineup. In addition, the G-Class off-road vehicle will also welcome new models such as the all-new G 500 and the all-new G 63 on the occasion of its 45th anniversary. In the core luxury product lineup, the all-new long-wheelbase GLC SUV plug-in hybrid model and the all-new long-wheelbase E-Class plug-in hybrid model will be launched later this year. In addition, the new member of the Mercedes-Benz Dream Car – the all-new CLE coupe and cabriolet will also be launched on the market later this year. In the new generation luxury product lineup, the new generation EQA pure electric SUV and EQB pure electric SUV will also land in the Chinese market, bringing the latest design elements of the electric family, luxury driving and intelligent experience. Mercedes-Benz will continue to focus on high-quality operations, upgrade the current retail network, expand customer touchpoints, and implement the green retail network based on the “2020 Network Upgrade Plan.” The retail network upgrade project will be fully accelerated by 2024 and will be completed by the end of 2025. With the “Green Retail” project covering all new and refurbished dealerships in 2023, it is expected that the carbon emissions from the dealership network will be reduced by half by 2026 compared to 2021. In terms of the charging network, Mercedes-Benz super charging stations have been put into operation in Chengdu, Foshan, Qingdao, Chongqing, Kunming, Wuhan, Suzhou, Changzhou, and other cities. As of now, Mercedes-Benz public charging services have covered nearly 590,000 public charging piles in over 340 cities nationwide. Under the trends of electrification, intelligence, and digitization, Mercedes-Benz will continue to strengthen its local R&D capabilities, create a digital luxury experience that better understands Chinese customers, and play a more leading role in the global R&D network. Currently, the local R&D network covers Beijing and Shanghai, with a team of 2,000 people. The new building of the Mercedes-Benz Shanghai R&D Center will be put into use this year to support the R&D in digital fields such as intelligent connectivity and autonomous driving.

As the only global car company with both L3 conditional autonomous driving and L4 fully autonomous parking “dual license”, Mercedes-Benz has been approved for Beijing’s first batch of conditional autonomous driving road test license in 2023. It will officially launch the testing of its conditional autonomous driving system on designated highways in Beijing, further accelerating the landing of related smart driving products in the Chinese market.
