On January 11 that Mullen, based in California, had previously attempted to sell Chinese-made electric cars in the United States, but ultimately failed. The company also acquired a stake in Bollinger Motors, a brand dedicated to developing all-electric off-road vehicles, and owns the factory where General Motors used to produce the Hummer H2.
Mullen recently unveiled the Mullen Five RS at CES 2024, a fully electric high-performance SUV and the company’s most powerful model yet. The company has not been able to mass-produce any of its previous passenger car projects. Mullen expects the Five RS to hit the market in 2025, earlier than the non-RS version, which also has impressive specs and a high price.
Mullen aims to equip this car with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, providing over 1,000 horsepower and over 850 pound-feet of torque, and using a dual-speed gearbox similar to the Porsche Taycan. Mullen estimates that with such powerful power, this 5070-pound SUV can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than 2 seconds, with a top speed of over 200 miles per hour.
However, powerful power also requires a fairly strong braking system. Mullen said the Five RS will be equipped with six-piston Brembo front calipers and 15.7-inch dual-disc carbon-ceramic rotors, as well as four-piston rear calipers and 14.6-inch rotors, allowing the car’s braking distance to be controlled within 110 feet per 100 kilometers. The Five RS will be equipped with a 100 kWh battery, which the company says can provide a range of 300 miles and can charge from 0% to 80% in about 20 minutes. The car is equipped with four sport seats, and the infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and AI-based voice assistant. The dashboard features two large displays and a smaller third screen for the front passenger, and the US version also comes with a panoramic sunroof, premium sound system, and customizable ambient lighting.
In terms of appearance, the Five RS features a race car-style body kit, including a rear spoiler and a set of 21-inch wheels, with the option for buyers who like large wheels to choose a set of 22-inch wheels. Currently, the official price of the Five RS has not been announced, but according to Car and Driver, the company’s CEO stated at the press conference that the starting price of the Five RS is approximately $295,000, with the carbon fiber version priced at around $385,000.
