Mazda recently released official images of the new mid-size SUV CX-70, which shares platform, power, design language, and most of the body structure with Mazda’s large SUV CX-90. The two vehicles even have the same wheelbase, but the CX-70 is a “large five-seater” model.
The Mazda CX-70 is designed with a focus on sportiness. The front face is treated with a smoked black finish, and the family-sized large front grille is retained. Moving to the side of the car, the rear half of the body has a streamlined design with a rounded sloping back. It is worth noting that the wheelbase of the car is 122.8 inches, the same as the CX-90, but the length of the body is slightly shorter.
The overseas model of the car integrates the Amazon Alexa smart assistant in the infotainment system, allowing users to control products or functions including air conditioning, audio and video, and smart home through voice commands. The interior features a combination of black interior and red leather seats, as well as various color schemes such as brown, all black with gold accents.
In terms of power, the car has two power systems: fuel and plug-in hybrid. The former is equipped with a 3.3L inline 6-cylinder turbocharged engine, with two maximum power options – 280 horsepower and 340 horsepower, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The latter is equipped with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine + 68kW motor, with a combined power of 323 horsepower, maximum torque of 500N·m, pure electric range of 30 miles, and all models come standard with rear-biased four-wheel drive system.
According to IT Home, Mazda will launch plug-in hybrid vehicles in China as early as 2025, in collaboration with partner Changan Automobile. Currently, Mazda is not actively promoting electric vehicles. In 2022, the company sold a total of 1.1 million vehicles globally, with plug-in and electric vehicles accounting for about 2%.
