Not long ago, BYD released the official images of the new model of the Yuan family – the Yuan UP. As the Year of the Dragon approaches, we have already seen the actual car in the store. The new car is positioned as an A0-class pure electric SUV, built on the BYD e-platform 3.0. The new car will be officially launched in March. Now let’s take a sneak peek and see what highlights the Yuan UP has.
In terms of exterior design, the BYD Yuan UP adopts the Dragon Face design language and incorporates more personalized design elements in the details. For example, the front closed grille is equipped with a black decorative panel, integrated with the headlights, and also incorporates the ancient seal font element LOGO in the center, giving it a strong family recognition.
The headlight has a delicate design and uses LED light source. It creates a nice overall delicate feeling when lit up.
In addition, the new car’s front bumper adopts a two-section design, with white lines to highlight the overall X-shaped layout of the front face, showcasing the vehicle’s youth and crossover style.
The side of the car shows a more obvious crossover style, with a compact and square shape, and a good tough style. In terms of details, black decorative panels are used on the front and rear wheel arches, and there are also small same-color decorations on the top. At the same time, the overall style of the side skirts also echoes the front bumper, making the side look more like a CrossOver model.
In addition, the new car adopts a traditional style, so there is no need to worry about the door handles freezing in the northern winter. It also helps to reduce wind resistance. The black A-pillar, B-pillar, and C-pillar create a floating roof effect, adding to the overall stylishness of the vehicle. In terms of body size, the BYD Yuan UP is positioned as an A0-level SUV, with dimensions of 4310/1830/1675mm (length/width/height) and a wheelbase of 2620mm.
In terms of wheels, the actual car model is equipped with 17-inch low-drag wheels, matched with 215/60 R 17 Chaoyang brand tires. However, in my opinion, the wheel hub size could be one size larger.
The rear of the car is rounded and full, with a wide rear bumper that lowers the visual center of gravity. The spoiler on the roof and the two-tone bumper guard below also enhance the sporty and three-dimensional feel of the rear of the car.
Additionally, the BYD Yuan UP’s integrated light group further enhances the vehicle’s horizontal visual width and provides a good visual effect when illuminated.
In terms of interior, the BYD Yuan UP still adopts the family’s interior style, the layout of the central control panel still presents the traditional T-shaped layout, the multimedia screen and the LCD instrument panel all have a very familiar BYD style. The new style of the flat-bottom steering wheel brings a nice fresh feeling.
In terms of material selection, the actual shooting model uses a black + rice dual-color matching, and a large amount of soft materials are also used to wrap the center console and door panels. For an A0-level SUV, the texture of the interior is still very outstanding.
The electronic gear lever adopts a crystal style, with a good texture. In addition, quick physical buttons are also used around, which is more convenient for blind operation.
At the same time, we can also see that the shift lever is equipped with a wireless charging pad for phones.
The liquid crystal instrument panel measures 8.8 inches and displays delicately. It has two theme modes and can also display rich information such as tire pressure, navigation, and multimedia.
In terms of intelligent configuration, the central control panel is equipped with BYD’s classic rotatable screen, with a size of 12.8 inches, and built-in DiLink intelligent networking system. In terms of functionality, it integrates various apps including Baidu Maps, Gaode Maps, QQ Music, Douyin, and Himalaya FM.
In terms of safety configuration, the new car also features the DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system, including full-speed adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, active lane keeping, blind spot monitoring, 360° panoramic imaging, and more.
The BYD Yuan UP front seats feature a sporty one-piece design, in line with its youthful positioning. The seats are soft and comfortable, with the added feature of electric adjustment for the front seats.
The rear floor adopts a flat design, and it is very flat. Sitting in the middle position will not affect comfort. In addition, the new car’s rear seats will provide USB ports and small storage compartments.
In terms of space, although positioned as an A0-level small car, thanks to the e-platform 3.0 pure electric exclusive platform, it can have a larger room rate. After adjusting the driving posture in the front row, with a height of 1.9m, the legroom in the rear row is tight, but fortunately the backrest is soft. Plus, the panoramic sunroof design makes the ride not feel oppressive.
The trunk space performs well, with a volume comparable to other vehicles in its class. The trunk has a neat shape and when the rear seats are folded down, it forms a flat storage space. It is worth mentioning that there is a hidden storage compartment under the trunk floor with a considerable capacity, making it very practical for carrying items.
In terms of power, the BYD Yuan UP is built on the e-platform 3.0, offering two power options for AC permanent magnet synchronous drive motors, with maximum power of 70kW and 130kW, and maximum torque of 180Nm and 290Nm, respectively. In terms of battery, the new car comes standard with a blade battery pack, with battery capacities of 32kWh and 45.12kWh, corresponding to CLTC pure electric range of 301km and 401km, respectively. In summary: From a static experience perspective, the BYD Yuan UP is a very clear positioning model. Its main target group is the young consumer group for urban commuting. It has a more youthful design, and the e-platform 3.0 can provide better quality. The Yuan UP will also make the BYD Yuan family’s product lineup more closely knit, giving consumers options in various niche markets. The new car will also be officially launched in March, and we believe the price will be a pleasant surprise.
