Bosch Smart Mobility: Leading the Way in China's New Energy Vehicle Testing

China is the most smooth and largest country in the practice of new energy intelligent vehicles, and behind the continuous “upward” of the whole vehicle factory, many top Tier 1 companies have deeply cultivated China, with the Chinese market as the center, and the deep integration of localization and globalization. There is no doubt that Bosch Group, famous for its innovative cutting-edge products and system solutions, is the most important partner for Chinese car manufacturers, not only maintaining advantages in technological innovation and cooperation supply, but also forming strength in testing, training, and other aspects that other technology suppliers do not possess.

Recently, Sina Auto was invited by Bosch to visit the Bosch Automotive Testing Technology Center in Yakeshi to experience the testing of Bosch’s scenario-based vehicle motion control system, and to personally experience the game between driving control and natural freezing. The “frontline” of winter testing The Bosch Automotive Testing Technology Center and the Bosch Intelligent Travel Group are the “frontline” of Bosch in helping car companies continuously update products, innovate technology, and reduce safety risks. They provide a safe and automated driving experience through high standards and strict requirements, and help the future development of the automotive industry.

Bosch Automotive Testing Technology Center was established in 2007. With the support of Yakeshi City, it has now become the Yakeshi National Modern Service Industry Automotive Testing Industrial Base. It is a high-tech industrial development zone for winter automotive testing and an important “bridgehead” for testing chassis safety products. The physical testing area of the testing technology center covers an area of 1.32 million square meters and includes various test road surfaces with different adhesion coefficients for testing the performance of vehicles on ice and snow roads in winter.

The dynamic square includes three test tracks, providing a safe testing area for vehicles. The ice and snow circle consists of two circular tracks, with a maximum outer diameter of 250 meters. The lake surface control road includes two sections, with a polished ice surface divided into three test areas. The entire road surface is made up of asphalt and ice, allowing vehicles to perform emergency braking on surfaces with different levels of traction. The lake surface test area also includes a lake driving evaluation road and a research road. The land test area covers 540,000 square meters and includes test surfaces with different coefficients of friction. Bosch has introduced the professional Bosch driving training system from Germany, providing users with road safety and driving skills training, as well as driving experience, marketing activities, and brand promotion. Bosch has been deeply rooted in China for many years and has become a leader in supporting international car companies in meeting the demands of the Chinese market.

Bosch Automotive Testing Technology Center is one of the key players in turning the “cold resources” of Yakeshi City into a “hot economy”. Bosch’s commitment to the extreme cold region reflects its core competitiveness. Despite operating independently in the face of industry competition, Bosch will continue to invest in diversified technologies, adhere to being a TIER 1 supplier, and focus on both hardware and software. Unlike some local tech companies, Bosch does not accept losses or rely on subsidies for technology development, but actively embraces change and does not compromise for trends, showing Bosch’s persistence. Through collaboration with car manufacturers, Bosch can quickly understand new user needs and empower car manufacturers. In the field of intelligent control systems for automobiles, Bosch can create integrated solutions with new value experiences for Chinese customers. In response to the demand for smart electric vehicles, Bosch has innovated localized intelligent control functions for the four different scenarios classified by the China Society of Automotive Engineers. For urban commuting, the OMP parking sports control system can reduce parking efficiency and jerky parking, integrating upper and lower systems to achieve smooth and uninterrupted automatic parking.

High-end public affairs: eDTC new energy vehicle coasting energy recovery torque control, which is used to detect the pause of kinetic energy recovery when the tire slip rate is too high, can improve the torque of the tire with excessive slip rate, ensuring the safety and controllability of the vehicle.

Hardcore Off-road: iTAS Intelligent Turning Assist System, also known as the true tank turn of four-wheel side motors, similar to the function of the U8, but this function is generally high in cost and will only be installed on million-level vehicles. iTAS uses sensor signals and precise algorithms to apply different directions of braking and driving force to the four wheels, allowing the vehicle to generate lateral movement favorable to the driver’s desired direction, thereby reducing the turning radius. In specific data, the vehicle’s turning diameter can be reduced from 11.5m to 6.3m, basically achieving turning in place. iTAS is a more cost-friendly option, and the dual motors can also ‘turn in place’; this system will be mass-produced and put into the market in 2024.

Extreme conditions: iDCS intelligent drift system, drift is a controllable “out of control” state of fun driving, iDCS can simplify the difficulty of drifting, allowing beginners to have fun easily. iDCS will continuously collect the vehicle’s lateral angular velocity, wheel side slip angle, and steering wheel angle information through sensors, calculate the optimal motor torque required at this moment, and help the driver constantly adjust the throttle. The driver only needs to step on the accelerator pedal deeply and focus on controlling the direction. The system is compatible with different brands of vehicles with different motor, chassis, and suspension characteristics, completing calibration.

In summary, Bosch Smart Mobility Group has positioned itself as a startup company. From the recent trip to Yakeshi, it is evident that the company is working hard, cooperating sincerely, and innovating diligently. It is steadfastly supporting the development of the entire vehicle factory without deviation, and the word “empowerment” is very resounding. Despite being called a “startup company,” the essence of a century-old enterprise can still be seen, daring to transform on the gears of the times and face challenges with a deep technical foundation and a win-win attitude, making the word “empowerment” very brilliant.
