The Chery Fengyun, a name that may be unfamiliar to many young car enthusiasts, actually holds great significance for those familiar with Chery’s development. The first sedan produced by Chery in 1999 was named Fengyun, marking the beginning of Chery’s pioneering journey and its continuous innovation. Therefore, when Chery decided to revive this name, it was of great importance. At the end of last year, Chery officially named its new hybrid power product line after this meaningful series. According to Chery’s plan for the Fengyun brand, 11 products will be launched in the next 2 years, with the second mass-produced model, the Fengyun T6, appearing after the A8. New energy can also come in a square box.
In terms of appearance, the Fengyun T6 is a model with less distinctive electric features. The details show a square front, a wide hood, and sharp lines on both sides, outlining a sense of heaviness. Overall, due to its size, it is not a bulky model with brute force, and it still maintains a domestic quality.
The new Chery Fengyun logo with a flat design is placed in the center of the front face, giving the overall appearance a simple look. The front end still shows the traditional horizontal layered structure of the square-box car, with a large white space design in the middle of the grille, and the standard closed style of a new energy vehicle. The real air intake grille is arranged at the bottom of the front end.
The long and narrow “Skyline Through” LED light strip crosses the central grille design and connects with the headlights on both sides. This integrated design is also seen on some other brands, and the recognition is still good. The square and tough closed front face is equipped with a split-type headlight, with the main headlight group being vertically placed high and low beam lights, embedded in the traditional fog light area, and the surrounding decorative panel is very square and three-dimensional. The LED high-brightness headlights with matrix light source reveal a certain urban sense of presence, and the effect after lighting up is enough to surprise people.
The contour and lines of the car’s side profile are still stylish and concise, giving a sense of power. The waistline that tilts towards the rear reduces the square feeling. Its dimensions are 4501mm in length, 1865mm in width, and 1670mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2672mm. It is positioned as a compact SUV.
The rear design echoes the square style of the front, with narrow, continuous taillights and a boxy SUV feel. It has a large integrated spoiler and high-mounted brake light on the top, and a sporty look is added by the bottom diffuser.
The test drive car wheel rim uses a combination of black and silver in a semi-closed design. The wheel rim design has a certain sense of flow, and the 19-inch wheel rim adds to the visual effect. As for the tires, the matched tire specification is 235/50 R19, equipped with a tire labeled as EXEED, which is a customized tire by Jinhui, and it also appears on some models of the Xingtu. The cabin design of new energy vehicles.
The cockpit of the Wind and Cloud T6 adopts a horizontal and straight central control panel line, combined with a through-type air conditioning vent, which significantly stretches the visual hierarchy and visual width. The design of almost no physical buttons inside the car also makes the cabin appear much more spacious. The large suspended central control LCD screen and full LCD instrument panel focus on enhancing the sense of technology. The use of a large amount of leather and soft plastic gives the cockpit a better touch, and the texture details are quite advanced. The overall quality sense of the cockpit is still quite outstanding.
The HUD head-up display can project multiple pieces of information onto the front windshield. The entire interface UI of the 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel below is simple and homey, but the font is a bit small.
The three-spoke flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel is wrapped in leather, with a sporty design and a strong feel. Chrome trim and high-gloss black multimedia buttons further enhance the steering wheel’s texture. Integrated on both sides are physical buttons for various functions, including adaptive cruise control, customization, voice control, and volume adjustment. The large buttons are very comfortable to use.
The large suspended central control screen is vertically placed and equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip and a new operating system. The operation interface is the common bottom tray + drawer + right side tree-like functional area, which is intuitive to operate but sometimes difficult to find internal functions. In terms of functions, in addition to mainstream applications such as online navigation, online music, and video, it also has car networking and whole vehicle cloud OTA upgrade functions.
The T6 offers a level 2 driving assistance system, including adjustable ADAS functions such as intelligent navigation, intelligent avoidance, traffic sign recognition, collision warning, intelligent speed control, intelligent avoidance, and traffic congestion assistance.
The air conditioning control area is fully integrated into the central control screen, with a clear interface and convenient operation. The test drive car is equipped with dual-zone automatic air conditioning and a CN95 efficient air conditioning filter. In addition, it also has an air quality monitoring system and a negative ion system.
The T6 features a electronic gearshift design behind the steering wheel, creating extra storage space in the front area of the armrest. Below the central control screen, there is a 50W fast wireless charging panel with anti-slip mat and heat dissipation vents. The lower part also has USB and 12V power interfaces. Compact yet spacious.
The seats of the Fengyun T6 still prioritize the traditional comfortable seating design, with a wide butterfly-shaped headrest and just the right support for the hips and back. The seat cushion is also of good length, with wider support straps for the shoulders. The seats are wrapped in faux suede fabric for both the front and rear rows, providing high comfort for passengers. In terms of functionality, in addition to electric adjustment and memory functions, the front driver’s seat also has comfort features such as ventilation/heating/massage, showing a lot of sincerity in the configuration.
The Fengyun T6 prioritizes the driving experience, with the second-row seats featuring a strong three-dimensional design and excellent thigh support. The middle seat, despite its average shape, is comfortable for long rides thanks to the added padding. Overall, the second-row space is impressive, with ample head and knee room for passengers, thanks to its 2672mm wheelbase.
As for the second row passengers, they can enjoy individual air conditioning vents and charging ports, as well as foldable center armrests. Considering the practicality and future market price for this target group, we cannot expect too high-end.
The panoramic sunroof extends to the second row, providing ample natural light and a clear view. It can be opened at the front, adding brightness and visibility to the cabin. The sunroof and sunshade can be controlled by voice.
Apart from the added space brought by the double-layer center console, the Fengyun T6 also has multiple storage spaces of different sizes designed in the cabin to accommodate different items, making it easy to store personal belongings.
The rear seats of the T6 can be fully folded down to create a spacious storage area, meeting the diverse needs for a large SUV. The trunk space is also ample in its regular state.
The bottom of the floor leather also has many storage compartments, fixed mesh pockets are carried with the car, outdoor camping equipment and accessories have a place to put. Super hybrid, still that taste.
In terms of power, our test drive car is equipped with Chery’s Koenigsegg super energy hybrid C-DM technology, including Chery’s fifth-generation ACTECO 1.5TGDI efficient hybrid dedicated engine with a maximum power of 115kW, a maximum torque of 220N·m, and a thermal efficiency of 44.5%. The maximum power of the electric motor is 150kW, with a maximum torque of 310N·m.
In terms of range, the T6’s CLTC pure electric range is 120km, with a total range of over 1300km. The battery is equipped with a hybrid-specific battery supplied by CATL, with DC fast charging taking as little as 19 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%, and AC slow charging taking 3 hours to charge from 20% to 100%.
In addition, the power system also supports V2L external discharge function, with a discharge power of 3.3 kilowatts, supporting 6.6 kilowatts. The data and expandable functions are also very mainstream. Interestingly, the rear sunshade of the new car also has a choice of movie screen material, making outdoor projection easier to use.
The T6 has four driving modes: pure electric, extended range, engine direct drive, and parallel hybrid. The HEV and EV modes can be switched manually in the front of the armrest box, and there is also an EV+ mode that needs to be called up on the central control screen. When driving on city roads, even when switching to the HEV mode, the T6 will still prioritize EV mode driving. At this time, it can be completely driven as a pure electric vehicle, and its driving feel is like a pure electric car, with smooth and agile power output and a high speed limit.
Even with just a single motor, the T6 of Fengyun does not disappoint the advantages of pure electric cars. The motor fully utilizes its responsive advantage at low speeds, and the unique accordion-style throttle seems to add a linear sense of power output. Among cars of similar price range, its smooth performance meets your expectations for an excellent electric car.
In the direct drive mode, the acceleration performance of the T6 is like an enhanced version of a family car, with power coming quickly but not abruptly, and still leaning towards comfort. Activating its engine requires higher speed or lower SOC. In the engine direct drive mode, stepping on the gas for overtaking, the engine’s involvement in power output is still gentle, but the power output is also quite strong.
The T6 has three driving modes: economy mode, standard mode, and sport mode. These modes differ in power response speed and energy consumption management. The car can also choose from three levels of energy recovery, but the difference between the levels is not significant. Even at the strongest level, it does not provide the expected one-pedal driving state. The car aims for easy driving.
In terms of chassis structure, the Fengyun T6 uses a combination of front MacPherson + rear multi-link independent suspension, which is also a common combination in this level of electric vehicles. Because of its low center of gravity, it also has a very good chassis texture, and the overall toughness is more prominent. It can handle small road bumps and undulations with a clear road feel. When encountering higher speed bumps or quickly passing through broken roads, its ability to resolve is still commendable, sticking to the ground well, and the rear of the car is obedient without floating.
The steering wheel has linear damping, light self-centering force, and an overall soft feel, giving a subjective sense of weak control. However, the steering feedback is pleasing, the body follow-up is direct enough, and the turning radius is not large, thus achieving a driving control feeling not often seen in this type of car. The important reason for this experience lies in the layout of the bottom power battery and the better body follow-up tuning by the engineers. Summary: After the reconstruction and reorganization of its sub-brands and specific models, Chery’s brand has different brand layouts and differentiated positioning for various energy trackways. In the newly launched Fengyun brand, the target of the unreleased Fengyun T6 is still very clear: a friendly price of over ten thousand, you can buy an affordable, spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped quality hybrid SUV. Just like the first-generation Fengyun and the current Fengyun A8, versatility will still be an extremely significant advantage for Fengyun T6.
