For a 100,000-level sedan, in addition to having enough appearance, configuration, space, and endurance are also the points that consumers pay more attention to. The Geely Galaxy L6 is aimed at the 100,000-level sedan market. Since its launch, it has broken through the 100,000-unit mark in just 8 months with its super high cost performance. Recently, the Geely Galaxy L6 Dragon Edition has also come to us and has launched the slogan “lower price with more options”. Today, we will take this car to the track and experience its uniqueness.
The Geely Galaxy L6 Dragon Edition is equipped with a new generation 1.5T Thunder God hybrid engine, with a maximum power of 287kW and a maximum torque of 535N·m. It is paired with a 3-speed variable frequency electric drive DHT Pro transmission, truly realizing the “global three-speed” design, making the car drive smoother and enabling intelligent switching in multiple scenarios.
This time we also came to the Tianfu Raceway in Chengdu and drove the car onto the track to feel its speed and passion. The acceleration performance of the Geely Galaxy L6 Dragon Edition is somewhat different, it does not have that sudden push-back feeling, but instead, through the “slow start and strong finish” setting, makes the entire acceleration process extremely comfortable.
On the track, besides watching the acceleration of the vehicles, the tuning of the handling, chassis, and suspension is also very important. For the Geely Galaxy L6 Dragon Edition, its handling really surprised me, the feel of the flat-bottomed sports steering wheel is very good, and the size of the entire steering wheel is just right, making it convenient for us to quickly adjust the direction continuously. In addition, the car also adopts a console-mounted gear design, which not only expands the central channel area, but also makes the handling more convenient and agile.
In terms of chassis tuning, the performance of the Geely Yuanjing L6 Longteng version is as excellent as ever. We have previously test-driven the Geely Yuanjing L6 model and found its chassis to be very solid. This track experience has further deepened our understanding of the powerful chassis of this car.
When the vehicle goes through a curve at high speed, there is no abnormal noise from the body, and all four wheels grip the ground well. Even when decelerating or accelerating in the curve, there is no lateral movement in the rear of the car. This solid feeling is really rare.
However, this car is more geared towards family use, so the suspension system of the vehicle is tuned for comfort. This means that it can handle bumps and potholes well, but on the racetrack, the soft suspension will cause more body roll and increased compression. Fortunately, the seats of the car provide good support and can securely hold the driver in place.
The braking performance of the Geely Galaxy L6 Dragon Edition also satisfies us very much, especially in heavy braking after high-speed straight line, the whole brake system does not show any feeling of softness, and the whole process is also very linear, from the beginning to release the brake, the braking effect is very excellent and obvious, also increasing a lot of driving safety of the vehicle.
Finally, let’s talk about the power output of this car. As we mentioned before, the acceleration of the Geely Yuanjing L6 Longteng Edition is not very rapid at the beginning, but it shows a gradual feeling, especially when the speed exceeds 30 km/h, you will clearly feel the presence of a pushing sensation.
Even though this car is designed for family use, at the Tianfu Race Track, we were able to reach speeds of over 160km/h in a straight line. Even at this speed, we felt that it still had the capacity and ability to accelerate, demonstrating that the power output of this car is very commendable and reliable.
During the subsequent on-site test drive, we also conducted continuous slalom and acceleration-deceleration tests. The overall performance of the Geely Galaxy L6 Dragon Edition was similar to what we expected, with a noticeable leaning in the corners due to the suspension tuning being more on the comfortable side, which is unavoidable. The performance in acceleration and deceleration is the same as on the track.
In my opinion, the overall driving performance of the Geely Yuanjing L6 Longteng Edition is definitely far superior to its competitors in the same class. If I were to score its driving performance, I would give it around 90 out of 100, considering its price and positioning, its performance is already excellent.
Finally, let’s take a look at the improvements and changes made to the appearance and interior of this car. In terms of appearance, the Geely Yuanjing L6 Longteng edition still retains the design style of the existing model, including the use of a through-type lamp group design, while the two sides of the front bumper also retain the vertical daytime running light strip, the overall recognition is still very high.
The Geely StarL6 Dragon Edition hybrid model still uses a fully enclosed front bumper design, which is also a very “electric” design style. However, in order to improve the intake and cooling effect, an intake grille is still retained under the through-type headlight assembly, and hidden treatment is done, plus the intake grille under the front bumper, to ensure that the vehicle has enough intake.
The side profile of the car remains unchanged, with a sleek and streamlined design. The dimensions of the new car are 4782x1875x1489mm, with a wheelbase of 2752mm.
Hidden door handles are standard on the entire line, and the new car uses a brand new 17-inch wheel design, paired with 215/55 R17 tires. The new car will use black roof paint, and the mirrors have also been blackened and added with electric heating function, ensuring practicality.
The rear of the car has also remained unchanged. The continuous light group adopts a design with transparent lampshades, and the inside light strip presents a wave-like shape. The tail badge is also designed within the light group, giving a strong sense of technology.
The rear bumper is designed to be full and stylish, with hidden exhaust and chrome trim for a sporty look. It outlines the dual exhaust shape, making the whole car look more sporty and stylish.
In terms of interior design, the new car also features a new dark interior, which is more in line with the aesthetic preferences of young consumers. The overall layout changes are not very significant, still continuing the design of the existing models, including the sport steering wheel, 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel, and 13.2-inch vertical central control screen, all of which have been retained.
The flat-bottomed sports steering wheel has excellent feel, with multi-function buttons and roller design to minimize the possibility of misoperation. After a little familiarization, blind operation is completely achievable. In addition, the buttons can be customized according to the consumer’s usage habits.
The 13.2-inch central control screen is vertically placed, and the car will be equipped with the Galaxy N OS car intelligent system. All models are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 automotive-grade chip, as well as 540° panoramic imaging and other functions. The car will support online navigation, online entertainment, mobile interconnection, OTA upgrades, and other functions, fully meeting our daily needs.
The new car will continue to use the console design, which can maximize the area of the central aisle and make the operation smoother. With this design, there is more storage space in the central aisle, which is very friendly and convenient for our daily use.
In terms of seating, the new car is equipped with electric adjustment function, and the comfort of sitting is very high, including the lateral support of the waist and legs, which can firmly fix us in the seat. The ergonomic design of the entire seat is also thoughtful enough, even long-term sitting will not feel tired.
The rear seats also retain the “marshmallow memory seats,” with both the cushion and backrest being extremely comfortable and soft. Despite the sloping design, the headroom has not been compressed much, so even adults won’t feel crowded. In addition, the C-pillar has a side window, allowing rear passengers to enjoy a more comfortable ride. Summary: In the current market for home-use sedans under 100,000 yuan (13870$), there are many brands and models to choose from. To stand out among so many options, a car must have its own advantages. The Geely Yuanjing L6 Longteng Edition not only has a lower price, but also has improved features, making its overall competitiveness very strong. So, do you like and are satisfied with this car?
