Traveler is a “online celebrity” model under the Jetour brand, with a rugged design and recreational attributes positioning it as a “light off-road vehicle”, capturing the love of many young people since its launch. The highly anticipated C-DM plug-in hybrid version of this car belongs to the Jetour Shanhai new energy series, officially named “Jetour Shanhai T2”, expected to be launched around the Beijing Auto Show this year. Before its launch, we had a preview experience of it in Wuyi Mountain, Fujian. Square box is still the biggest design point.
The appearance of JMC T2 adopts a tough square box body style design, which looks similar to a traveler. The official claims this design language as “the way of cross”. Many traditional elements of non-load-bearing off-road vehicles are used on it, making it look very robust and retro, with high recognition.
The front face features a bold design, with a blackened upper grille adorned with a large “JETOUR” brand logo. The black bumper in the middle is thick and protruding, giving it a strong mecha style while maintaining its off-road qualities. The addition of bright-colored tow hooks further enhances its off-road character.
The headlight design is rugged, with 4 short LED daytime running lights around the main headlight. The main headlight is hidden on both sides of the grille, specially optimized for light off-road. The width of the front headlight reaches 38.1 meters, and the distance reaches 200 meters. The lower part is designed with two sets of square array LED daytime running lights, giving a strong sense of technology.
The side design is full of wild style, with the ABCD pillars all hidden. The front and rear fenders have a very prominent and muscular design. The body dimensions are 4785/2006/1875mm in length, width, and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 2800mm. Due to the presence of the bottom battery pack, the height is slightly different from the Jetour Traveler, with a ground clearance adjustment of 205mm.
It focuses more on light off-road scenes, so there are many accessories in this regard. Like the traveler, it can provide optional winches, trailer hooks, side boxes, roof tents, pedal ladders, roof racks, and even spotlights. The lifetime quality assurance label continues to be affixed to the D-pillar, and the “Traveler C-DM” badge continues to display its identity information.
The rear styling is different from the hardcore front face, with simple lines and narrow vertical tail lights wrapped in black frames, giving a futuristic and concise feel. However, the lower bumper is still thick and protruding. The tailgate adopts the classic side-opening style, with a square shell “backpack” hanging on it.
It adopts a more urban Y-shaped wheel hub design, with bright wheel hub covers added. The tire choice is a set of Jiatong brand Control P10 specification 255/55 R20 tires, focusing on comfort and quietness. Hardcore interior with many surprises.
The interior decoration of the T2 cabin of Jietu Shanhai is also tough, but the lines are more delicate, incorporating vertical air vents on both sides of the wide central console with a sense of mecha-style technology. The sturdy armrests exude a wild atmosphere, with a 10.25-inch instrument panel and a 15.6-inch floating central control screen complemented by a three-spoke color-blocked steering wheel and a crystal-adorned electronic gear lever, creating a highly infectious atmosphere.
Just like the exterior, the new car’s cabin has many small design Easter eggs that pay tribute to classic off-road vehicles, such as rivets, beer bottle openers, etc. The front passenger side even has a map of the G318 Sichuan-Tibet Line, with ambient lighting, quite interesting.
The car system is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, with AI intelligent assistant and FOTA smart upgrade. The UI design is very clear, easy to use, covering almost all car system functions you can think of.
Similarly, this car is positioned as a traveler by Jietu. It collaborates with partners such as Ctrip, Qiuye Di, and Qingtong FM to empower the “travel +” ecosystem. The self-driving ecosystem created by users is also available in the car’s exclusive app.
In addition, it offers parking air conditioning and off-road monitoring system with water sensing for a more comprehensive outdoor experience.
In terms of intelligent driving, the new car is equipped with L2.5 level intelligent driving assistance system, including forward collision warning system, intelligent recognition of traffic speed limit signs, lane departure warning, intelligent blind spot monitoring, automatic braking system, traffic congestion driving assistance, intelligent lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, fully automatic parking, and other driving assistance functions. It also features DMS fatigue driving monitoring, life sign monitoring, and panoramic imaging.
Below the screen is the air conditioning outlet area, the entire air conditioning interface is integrated into the large screen, with many functions, it is not very convenient to operate in detail during driving, but you can. The air conditioning configuration is still very high, the dual-zone automatic air conditioning includes CN95 vehicle standard air conditioning filter, negative ion generator, air quality management system.
Below the air conditioning area, there is a 50W wireless charging area in front of the armrest. The compartment under the center console is also equipped with USB ports to meet various power needs of passengers in the car. The space advantage brought by “fang”
The new car seats are wide and styled with a mech armor feel, the side wings and thick cushions provide good support and wrapping. The front seats have functions such as ventilation, electric heating, power adjustment, seat memory, etc.
The rear seats maintain the same design and comfort as the front seats, providing a high-quality sitting experience with no difference from the front seats. The floor is flat. Equipped with three independent headrests, three sets of three-point seat belts, rear air vents, and two USB ports.
Storage space is designed to be practical and convenient. Many items can be easily stored in the car.
The vehicle is equipped with a 64-inch panoramic sunroof with a sunshade, which can be opened at the front.
Test driving the car, the electric tailgate is very convenient to open, revealing a wide opening but positioned high.
On the door panel, there are hooks and two foldable cup holders.
It is worth mentioning that the trunk is also equipped with a 220V power supply, with a maximum discharge power of 2.2 kW.
The trunk space is average, but the neat internal structure improves the overall space utilization. The back seats can be folded down for more loading space, but the angle of the seat back may reduce the utilization rate. Hybrid can also be hardcore.
The new car is equipped with the fifth-generation ACTECO 1.5TGDI efficient hybrid engine, with a maximum power of 115kW and peak torque of 220N·m. It achieves high efficiency and low energy consumption through technologies such as deep Miller cycle, intelligent combustion system, and efficient turbocharging system. It is important to note that it is equipped with C-DM dual-motor drive + 3-speed DHT super electric hybrid system, with a comprehensive maximum power of 280kW and comprehensive torque of 610N·m.
In terms of endurance, the Jetour X70 T2 is equipped with a 43.24kWh hybrid-specific battery from CATL, providing 208km of pure electric range and over 1300km of total range, while also supporting 6.6kW external power output.
This is a P2+P2.5 structure with 3 sets of clutches, capable of 9 power system modes. For drivers, it has pure electric and hybrid driving modes. The electric motor is powerful, allowing for pure electric driving at medium and low speeds. Even with heavy acceleration, the engine remains idle. The driving experience is like a pure electric car, with smooth and gentle power output from the motor.
Only on highways or when the battery is low will the power system start the engine to assist in power. The motor and engine output power in parallel through DHT coordination to enhance performance. It is worth mentioning that the engine’s involvement in the full-speed range is not strong. Whether providing power to the motor in a similar manner to a range extender or directly participating in power output, the engine’s operation is very smooth. The overall performance of the vehicle’s NVH is quite good.
We test drove the two-wheel drive model, which has four driving modes to choose from: economy, standard, sport, and snow. The power response speed and energy management strategy vary in different driving modes, with a noticeable difference in power output. The snow mode focuses on potential skidding and the need for escape. There are three options for energy recovery intensity, but the differences are not significant and the feedback is not very strong. Switching to the strongest intensity does not provide a one-pedal driving experience.
In terms of chassis, the Jetour X70 T2 uses front MacPherson + rear multi-link independent suspension. The chassis shows toughness, handling small bumps and undulations smoothly. It performs well on speed bumps and rough roads, with a good sense of luxury.
The steering wheel has linear damping, light self-centering force, and a soft overall feel. The handling feedback is pleasant, even though the SUV’s suspension travel is longer and the body roll is not sluggish. The turning radius is not large, providing a common driving feel for this type of vehicle.
The current T2 model of the JETOUR only has a two-wheel drive version, but in the future, a four-wheel drive version with BorgWarner’s four-wheel drive system will be launched. This car has a natural off-road foundation, but in the two-wheel drive model we tested, it relies more on longer suspension and quick response of the power system on these complex road surfaces. Summary: For JETOUR travelers, the styling, power, and configuration are its killer features. As the penetration rate of new energy continues to increase, its hybrid models also become more attractive. Just like the performance in the market of travelers, the explosive potential of the JETOUR T2 can be seen at a glance.
