On April 18, Dongfeng Fengshen’s first luxury new energy MPV, the Xinghai V9, started pre-sale, with a pre-sale price range of 199,000 to 279,000 yuan (38540$). The new car is a medium-sized new energy MPV, equipped with a Mach hybrid system, using an 800-volt high-voltage platform, and has high-speed elevated navigation assistance and other L2+ level auxiliary driving capabilities. The Xinghai V9 targets the 200,000 to 300,000 yuan (41440$) fuel vehicle replacement market, impressing users with savings, large space, and intelligence.
In terms of appearance, the Star Ocean V9 features Chinese design elements. The front grille comes in two versions, one with Chinese knots and the other with nine steps resembling the Forbidden City. The side profile and interior design are inspired by Chinese rivers and mountains.
The split-style Flowing Light Intelligent Headlamp looks very stylish, with 150 LED beads, a million pixels, and smart functions like automatic anti-glare shading and width indication.
In terms of space, the StarSea V9 is 5251x1920x1810mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 3018mm. It has a 2+2+3 seven-seat layout, with 85.2% space utilization. To meet the needs of users who value both business and home, the front seats are comfortable, with the driver’s seat having ten-way power adjustment with lumbar support, and the passenger seat having eight-way power adjustment with lumbar support. Both seats also have heating, ventilation, and 8-point massage. The second row features independent leather aviation seats with eleven layers of structure, allowing for adjustment in all directions and manual adjustment of the middle aisle for easy access to the third row. The third row also offers decent space, comfortably accommodating passengers up to 1.8 meters tall.
Thanks to the 1020mm long slide rails of the second row seats, the Xinghai V9 creates a magic space to meet different needs by folding down the front two rows separately. The third row features a sinking design to support a 4:6 folding ratio. With 7 people on board, the trunk volume is 593 liters. After fully stowing, a flat floor is obtained, enough to accommodate four adult bicycles.
In terms of power, the Xinghai V9 uses a 1.5TD Mahle dual-engine hybrid system with a maximum thermal efficiency of 45.18%. Fengxing claims to have used the best calibration strategy to better utilize the energy-saving effects of pure electric, hybrid, and extended-range modes. Under CLTC standards, the comprehensive range reaches 1300 kilometers.
In terms of intelligence, besides smart headlights, the cabin uses the Qualcomm 8155 chip, with 64 ambient lights, a 41-inch triple screen, and a 50-inch HUD. The interior visual supports gesture control, facial recognition, and can automatically adjust music volume, open windows, and ventilation in scenarios such as phone calls and smoking.
In terms of assisted driving, the Xinghai V9 uses a parking-integrated domain controller, the control system hardware adopts the mainstream chip Mobileye Q4+ TDA4VM, equipped with a sensor architecture of 5R 5V 12U, matching high-precision maps and high-precision positioning. It supports automatic parking, valet parking, and high-speed elevated navigation assistance driving capabilities, and has 30 L2+ level assisted driving functions such as narrow lane assistance and track reversing.
In terms of chassis and safety, the Fengxing Xinghai V9 uses the world’s first EMB electronic steering and SBW electronic brake control, with better chassis performance and superior braking distance. The body uses high-strength steel accounting for 70% and torsional stiffness of 25000 N·m/degree. It has passed the three-row child collision test, with the armor battery core exceeding 3000 cycles of life, industry-leading, and also has active safety reminders for children and pets inside the car.
The Xinghai V9 supports 3.3kW external power output through the charging port, convenient for camping and outdoor activities. The vehicle also has a 220V power socket inside, convenient for business people to work or for home entertainment and learning.
The Star Sea V9 is currently available for pre-sale, with approximately 60,000 yuan (8290$) in benefits. The car focuses on practicality, with a large size and a price point of around 200,000 yuan (27630$) for fuel models. The new car will also be on site for those interested to see in person.
