On April 25, 2024, at the ongoing Beijing Auto Show, Audi unveiled the new generation pure electric model Q6L e-tron. The new car is the first model designed specifically for the Chinese market, based on the luxurious pure electric platform PPE. In addition, Audi SQ6 e-tron and Audi Q5 e-tron RS kit racing version also made their debut in China at the auto show. At the brand’s press conference, Audi appeared with two major local partners, China FAW and SAIC Group, to cover the lineup of models based on the MEB, PPE, and J1 pure electric platforms.
Audi Global CEO Gerd Noack said, “By customizing products for the market, deepening local research and development capabilities, and strengthening customer-centric commitment, Audi will continue to maintain a strong position in the Chinese automotive market.” Dr. Ryo Inhan, President of Audi China, said, “Guided by a clear development roadmap tailored for the Chinese market, we are committed to deepening the brand’s core of ‘breakthrough technology enlightening the future’, continuously shaping and further strengthening the brand’s position in the high-end market in China.”
On the eve of the auto show, Audi Q6L e-tron made its global debut at the Volkswagen Group Media Night. Audi stated that it represents the latest breakthrough innovation of the Audi brand and is a milestone model for Audi’s deep cultivation in the Chinese market.
Audi Q6L e-tron is built on the PPE platform and new E3 1.2 electronic architecture, featuring 800-volt electrical architecture and advanced battery and charging management systems. Designed specifically for the Chinese market, it has a 105mm longer wheelbase and a 7kWh larger battery, and will also be equipped with a new exclusive connectivity solution for the Chinese market.
In early 2024, Audi FAW New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. in Changchun successfully started pre-production of the Audi Q6L e-tron and will officially localize and mass produce the PPE model by the end of the year. With the debut of the Audi Q6L e-tron, the Audi brand’s pure electric product lineup in the Chinese market now covers the group’s three major pure electric platforms.
Since 2013, Audi China’s R&D team has been incorporating local market trends into Audi products. Audi is leveraging synergies within the Volkswagen Group. Starting in the second half of 2024, Audi and Porsche users can access over 900 charging stations in 50 cities in China. Audi is also innovating customer touchpoints and sales models to meet the digital, electric, and personalized needs of Chinese consumers. By the end of 2023, FAW Audi has upgraded over 540 4S dealerships with Audi’s latest design language and opened 8 Audi City showrooms. SAIC Audi has expanded its channel layout and established the “SAIC Audi User Center” in automotive cities. Currently, FAW Audi has 615 marketing service networks in 247 cities, while SAIC Audi has 181 dealer stores in 88 cities.
