On April 25, 2024, BYD Qin L DM-i made its global debut at the ongoing Beijing Auto Show. The new car is a new model in the BYD “Qin” IP family, positioned as a mid-size sedan, continuing the Dragon Face aesthetic design on the exterior and featuring an interior design language inspired by “landscape painting.” It is powered by the fifth-generation DM-i super hybrid technology.
The new car continues to use BYD’s classic “Dragon Face” design language, but with more modern design details. The style is more aggressive and sporty, distinct from any other “Qin” model.
The front design of the Dynasty series is the latest style, with a multi-layered front face full of sharpness. The grille adopts a matrix-style short line filling, while the narrow bottom intake grille enhances the sporty atmosphere. The large C-shaped air intake on the bumper has a ventilation design, looking very domineering. The headlight design follows the current family style, with a long and narrow shape and a chrome-decorated wing-shaped light strip embedded in the upper part. The side of the car has a smooth waistline and a flat window design with a modern Chinese visual effect. The car’s body size is 4830mm x 1900mm x 1495mm, with a wheelbase of 2790mm, making it the largest in the Qin family.
The roofline smoothly transitions from the A-pillar to the sloping C-pillar, giving the rear of the car a compact and dynamic look. The new rear design is simple, with two trapezoidal exhaust outlets and a diffuser adding a sporty touch. The iconic tail lights with the “BYD” logo continue to be featured, providing high visibility when illuminated.
The Qin L cabin design features a spacious and stylish driving environment. The central control area has a symmetrical floating T-shaped design with embedded horizontal air vents. The cabin is equipped with the “DiLink smart cabin”, full LCD dashboard, adaptive floating PAD as the visual center of the central console, wireless charging panel below the central screen, and crystal-cut electronic gear lever. Soft plastic, decorative strips, and soft leather cover the entire central console, while ambient lighting enhances the cabin’s comfort.
The seats feature ergonomic design with shoulder support, providing comfort. The front seats are adjustable in multiple angles. The three rear seats each have independent headrests, central air conditioning vents, and charging ports for mobile devices. The ceiling is equipped with a large panoramic sunroof. The Qin L is expected to be equipped with BYD’s 5th generation DM-i hybrid system and a new hybrid-specific chassis. The suspension system consists of front MacPherson struts and rear four-link independent suspension. As a plug-in hybrid model, the Qin L offers two battery options: 10.08kWh and 15.87kWh, with electric ranges of 60km and 90km respectively.
