After four years, the automotive market has undergone huge changes, with new energy vehicles becoming the undisputed focus of the show. Dongfeng Fengshen unveiled its exclusive new energy product lineup, Fengshen Xinghai, a week ago. Its first flagship new energy sedan, Xinghai S7, made its global debut at the Beijing Auto Show. With a drag coefficient of only 0.191Cd, the Xinghai S7 is known as the “car with the lowest drag coefficient in the world.” It also introduced the revolutionary design concept of “interstellar fluid aesthetics” simultaneously.

At the press conference, Chris, the foreign styling director of StarSea, introduced the concept of interstellar fluid: “The inspiration comes from the free and casual star nebula curves, blending with the soul of the Silk Road of China, presenting the prosperity and magnificence of crossing thousands of years as a gift of wisdom through time to users.” According to Pan Hui, the product director of StarSea S7, the exterior design of StarSea S7 not only starts from beauty, but also considers extreme aerodynamics and energy consumption. The body of the StarSea S7 adopts endless celestial curves and double-curved water-drop skylights, creating a continuous and flowing visual impact with a seamless 3.65-meter all-glass dome through the smooth Y0 line. At the same time, it incorporates the concept of water droplets to maximize the reduction of wind resistance, providing an ultimate interior perspective and a wide 27.3° front windshield view and a smooth 20.1° large sloping back. Paired with a high-grade waistline, it outlines a sense of lightness. Additionally, the application of frameless doors and hidden door handles not only “cooperate” for the lowest wind resistance, but also provide a rare double-push electric door handle with a breaking ice capacity of ≥ 100N, making it easy to break through a 5mm thick layer of ice even in extremely cold weather.
It is worth mentioning that the Star Sea S7 adopts a linear daytime running light + segmented front headlight design, like the phoenix wings, every time the lights are on, it is like the dazzling wings of the phoenix, spreading out the majestic vitality, instantly rejuvenated, breaking through the stars. After over 100 hours of wind tunnel testing and verification, the drag coefficient of the Star Sea S7 was reduced by 0.001-0.016Cd in thirteen different areas such as the wheels, 3D wind deflector, and front grille intake, ultimately achieving a record-breaking drag coefficient of 0.191Cd during the development and verification process, making the Star Sea S7 the “world’s lowest drag sedan”.
It can be said that all the designs of the Xinghai S7 are for functionality, whether it’s the water drop shape or the integrated dome, all to achieve a minimum drag coefficient of 0.191Cd. With the help of the lowest drag coefficient, the Xinghai S7 achieves a motor system efficiency of 94.5% using the country’s first 8-layer flat wire motor technology paired with a high-speed, low-loss gearbox, low excitation high magnetic resistance electromagnetic topology scheme. At the same time, with the new self-developed heat pump thermal management system, the winter range of the Xinghai S7 also increases by more than 13.5%, ranking among the top in the industry. On the other hand, the Xinghai S7 is equipped with the Quantum Architecture Platform of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, with a high-strength steel application ratio as high as 68.53%. While ensuring a more stable, solid, and safe body structure for the Xinghai S7, it also achieves extreme lightweighting, greatly reducing energy consumption during driving. With the combination of the lowest drag coefficient, ultimate motor efficiency, and lightweight body, the Xinghai S7 effortlessly achieves a consumption of 11.9kWh/100km, the lowest within 500,000 RMB per 100 kilometers.
