On May 15, at the LeDao car brand launch event, LeDao car president Ai Tiecheng announced that the pre-sale price of LeDao L60 starts at 219,900 yuan (30460$); and stated that LeDao L60 will be launched and delivered in September this year. LeDao L60 is positioned as a mid-size SUV, focusing on family car needs.
Whether in the “new forces” camp or in the entire new energy vehicle market, the NIO brand is a brand with a lot of topics and technical strength. In the luxury market, it relies on its comprehensive self-developed capabilities and systematic intimate service model to successfully establish its brand image and win the favor of a large number of high-end customers. However, constrained by the brand’s style, NIO, which “will never make a two-wheel drive car,” also needs to find ways to please customers whose pockets are not so abundant or who value the cost-effectiveness of buying a car. So in response to the calls of consumers, a brand that has been the subject of rumors since the beginning and has maintained a very good and long-lasting secrecy finally arrives – ONVO, with the mysterious veil gradually lifted and appearing in front of us. Perhaps due to the background of the NIO brand, ONVO is also determined this time. Its first model is directly targeted at the mid-size SUV market, which is currently the most competitive segment in the Chinese pure electric vehicle market and also the most stable. Here, Tesla’s Model Y has been the market benchmark for several years. Starting from the high imitation road test, the slogan on the rear window of the ONVO L60, “Better than Model Y,” also indicates that it is aiming for the top spot. So, what attitude will the ONVO L60 adopt to compete in the market? It should be noted that this time we are still experiencing the engineering prototype, and can only appreciate the appearance. Some details of the hardware have not been finalized, many vehicle functions have not been opened, so it cannot fully represent the status of the final production car.
The new brand new look, under the new family design language of LeDao Motors, the recognition of LeDao L60 is really high. Its style is different from NIO brand, focusing on “comfortable space”, “extreme efficiency”, and “high-end design”. Being an SUV, the overall look is more rounded and sporty. Positioned as a mid-size SUV, it has the necessary momentum and original design elements that are enough to attract attention on the road with its unique design style.
The brand of Le Dao is all about “family happiness, home management”. The new logo is an abstract English letter N, round in style, slanting upwards to the right. The official explanation is that the logo represents “ON VOYAGE in Le Dao”, showing a more upward trend.
Designers say the Leopaard L60 pursues a sculptural look, evident in its front end. The L60 boasts intricate, three-dimensional lines on its front, with a short, slightly raised hood. Despite aiming for comfort, the design still exudes a rare toughness in this class of vehicle.
The front design style continues to be simple, with standard new energy car design elements such as closed grille, split headlights, and conservative bumper styling. There are also some obvious shadows of NIO’s classic design, such as the slightly protruding “shark nose”.
In order to pursue higher efficiency, designers meticulously refine the surface and edges of the entire vehicle. The Leopaard L60 not only has sleek lines, but also features air ducts in the bumpers for aerodynamics. The windshield has a large angle, streamlined A-pillars, rear fender shoulder lines, and a large aerodynamic spoiler. Despite being an SUV, it achieves a drag coefficient of Cd0.229, the lowest in the world for a production SUV.
The front face structure outlined by the split-type headlights looks very sporty, integrating the symmetrical L-shaped LED daytime running lights and main headlights, with a high recognition. The upper LED daytime running light unit uses polished aluminum, while the lower high and low beam split-type headlight assembly uses a lot of chrome for a delicate decoration, which is quite challenging in craftsmanship. All the light sources in the entire headlight assembly are LED, with the main headlight assembly only 15mm thick, full of delicacy.
Two small “horns” on the top are high-definition cameras, the design of the Leador L60 is quite pleasing. The auxiliary driving system is top-notch, with 30 high-performance sensing hardware as standard. It includes a 4D imaging millimeter-wave radar with a maximum detection distance of 370 meters, 7 high-definition cameras with a maximum detection distance of 687 meters, 4 starlight 360-degree surround-view cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. This is clearly a pure visual intelligent driving solution, ready for delivery, and most importantly, high-speed and urban NOA navigation assistance is available nationwide.
The exterior rearview mirror features a suspended layered design. The upper shell is painted in the same color as the body, while the lower part is a glossy black base. It integrates LED turn signal lights and a camera at the bottom.
The side profile of the car is concise with unique dual waistlines, giving it a layered look. It features frameless doors and hidden door handles, along with narrow windows for a sporty appearance. The design follows a more sporty proportion, with a 1:3 ratio for side windows to side body, 1:1 ratio for wheel to body height, and short overhangs typical of high-end new energy vehicles, maximizing interior space.
In terms of body size, the new car is 4828mm long, 1930mm wide, and 1616mm high, with a wheelbase of 2950mm. The wheelbase accounts for 61.1% of the total length, ensuring ample space for five passengers and luggage. The design exudes a sense of luxury rather than grandeur, giving it a trendy vibe.
Standing at a 45-degree angle from the rear, you will find that the Leopaard L60 looks best from this angle. The sleek design of the side profile, with its dynamic sloping style, gives the car a modern and stylish look. The long and smooth windows, wide shoulders, and simple surfaces all contribute to its modern feel. The high-gloss black accents on the rear bumper and wheel arches further enhance the sporty and fashionable elements.
The rear design of the car pursues a three-dimensional look, with a sloping roof creating a compact visual effect. The horizontal lines give the rear a sharp appearance, along with a sizable ducktail at the top. The overall design is inspired by coupe SUVs.
The L60 was born at NIO’s second advanced manufacturing base, so its label is simple, with only the words “乐道”.
The taillights do not adopt the popular through-type design, but the conventional style. The lights on both sides stretch to the end of the rear fender and curve upward, following the trend of car design. They, like the headlights, are named “rising sun lights”. The design of the lights, following the curves of the rear end, creates a more exaggerated visual effect, showing a stronger sense of sportiness.
The narrow-spoke petal-shaped wheels are very eye-catching, creating a dynamic sports stance. The car is equipped with Pirelli Eagle F1 tires in size 245/45 R20, known for their handling. The engineers emphasize that the tuning style of the vehicle leans towards comfort, with FSD adaptive suspension and a turning diameter of only 10.8 meters.
Leveraging the NIO NT3 platform architecture, the LeDao L60 uses a 900V platform architecture for power. The electric drive system has a comprehensive efficiency of 92.3%, equipped with self-developed 1200V SiC power modules, with a maximum efficiency of 99.7%. The CLTC comprehensive efficiency is 98.4%, power density is 3.48 kW/kg, maximum voltage is 930V, energy consumption is 12.1 kW/100km, in simple terms, 1 degree of electricity can run 9.07 kilometers.
The battery of the L60 from LeDao can be replaced and upgraded, and it is also ultra-thin. With NIO’s background, LeDao users have access to over 1000 battery swap stations, nearly 3800 proprietary charging stations, 20,000+ charging piles, and over 1,000,000 third-party charging piles from delivery. Within one year, LeDao users can use NIO’s advanced 3.0 and 4.0 battery swap stations. For NIO, the launch of the LeDao brand is a way to expand sales channels, achieve self-developed technology scale effects, and ultimately reduce costs and increase efficiency. For potential consumers of LeDao, it is an opportunity to purchase a car with NIO’s brand characteristics at a suitable price. Although we have only briefly reviewed the appearance of the L60 this time, analyzing its design and some highlights in detail. For me, my expectations for the LeDao L60 are far beyond the car itself. It is a new brand and model that will focus on the 200-300 thousand yuan intelligent pure electric vehicle market. Although everything is new, its most significant label is “NIO’s second brand,” so its cars will definitely continue some unique DNA in the future, such as its electric performance and customer service. With these, it is likely to become a popular model in the market. Do you think it will continue NIO’s strength?
