Jul 7, 2024

Prior to filing for bankruptcy protection last month, Fisker encountered logistical issues while selling the Ocean electric crossover, burning through a significant amount of funds earlier this year before shifting to a dealer partnership model. Some models of the Ocean were originally priced at around $70,000, but as Fisker faced bankruptcy, the company lowered the price of the cheapest model to around $25,000 to raise funds to repay debts. On May 30, just two weeks before Fisker filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, a U.S. leasing company agreed to purchase 2,100 Ocean electric vehicles, increasing the order to all 3,321 Oceans available for sale a month later. The U.S. leasing company offers long-term leasing or short-term rental services for ride-hailing drivers in New York City and its surrounding areas. Last year, New York City mandated that by 2030, ride-hailing fleets in the city must transition to zero-emission or wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
