On July 9, 2024, FAW-Volkswagen officially launched the all-new generation of Magotan. The new car represents the comprehensive intelligence upgrade of fuel models after Volkswagen’s “oil-electric co-progress” strategy. The car, with the codename B9, is based on the MQB-B platform and adopts Volkswagen’s new family design language. It has made significant progress in local intelligence, with the cabin equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip and an intelligent driving assistance system jointly developed with DJI. It offers two power systems, 1.5T and 2.0T, both paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. The new car offers 3 models to choose from, with prices ranging from 179,900 yuan (24720$) to 246,900 yuan (33930$).
At the same time, the Magotan B8 launched two 2 million shared models, priced at 17.49-20.69 million yuan, and the CC launched six shared models, priced at 22.49-27.49 million yuan.
The all-new Passat has undergone significant changes in its exterior design. This time, the localized evolution is a special adjustment, but the German taste remains pure. The new car is designed by Marco Pavone, the current Volkswagen exterior design director and legendary designer. It adopts the “Timeless” design concept to create a design that is both stable and slightly sporty compared to the old model. Its shape is already very bold and sporty, with a thorough rejuvenation, as well as special black badge models.
The front end of the all-new Passat is slimmer, with a distinct layout of the front bumper area and grille above. The lower front bumper design is more three-dimensional, highlighting elegance and smoothness while retaining a sturdy and dignified look. The headlights feature IQ.LIGHT technology and an integrated design with the central grille. The LED ambient light of the front grille extends to the headlights, turn signals, and daytime running lights, creating a cohesive light strip. The illuminated LED Volkswagen logo enhances the visual impact.
The side lines are straight and strong, the waistline from the front wheel eyebrow to the tail light has the iconic Volkswagen style, adding a sense of mechanical power, the modern sloping C-pillar design makes the overall posture more elongated and elegant. The new generation of Magotan is 4990/1854/1487mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2871mm. Compared to the current model, its body length has increased by 124mm and width by 22mm, making the new generation Magotan the largest Magotan ever in terms of size.
The all-new generation of Magotan features a new design at the rear, with a sleek roofline and a small ducktail design. The central part of the rear bumper is concave, and the unique X-shaped taillights bring a strong sense of sportiness. The hidden exhaust system at the bottom complements the front bumper, and the newly designed wheels enhance the overall look of the car, giving it a more serious and sporty German flavor.
The all-new generation of Magotan cockpit has become more electrified in both its appearance and interior. The overall layout of the center console still maintains a neat T-shaped structure, dividing the main and co-pilot areas and various functional zones. The lines are mainly horizontal, with the use of materials remaining conventional, including a high proportion of soft plastics and suede leather. Combined with 30 colors of ambient lighting and translucent decorative strips, it exudes a strong sense of delicacy and comfort. The key focus is on the intelligent equipment, with the center console equipped with a 12.25-inch LCD combination instrument panel, a 15-inch 2K central display screen, and an 11.6-inch co-pilot screen, along with W-HUD head-up display, forming the first-ever four-screen interactive system in the history of Magotan models.
The car’s system is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, with a much higher screen resolution than before, and supports CarPlay and Baidu Carlife. The UI interface is very simple, covering most daily functions on the initial page. It also features the iFlytek voice solution, with over 95% accuracy in recognizing both driver and passenger voices. The new generation Passat has a new network architecture, increasing data exchange speed by 4 times and data transmission by up to 200 times.
In terms of intelligent driving, the all-new generation of Magotan has significantly upgraded its intelligent driving technology. Equipped with IQ. Pilot intelligent driving assistance system jointly developed with DJI, this system is an L2+ level automatic driving system tailored for Chinese road conditions, capable of adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, lane change by lever, emergency merging handling, lane avoidance, traffic sign recognition, special object recognition, and other functions. In terms of vehicle safety, the all-new generation of Magotan’s cage-type body structure has a high-strength steel content of 81% and a hot-formed steel content of 28%, built to industry-leading anti-corrosion standards, with standard parts 100% using galvanized nickel/Dacromet coatings, and the entire vehicle undergoing 4.8 million kilometers of testing and over 100,000 parking tests.
The all-new Passat’s perforated leather seats are still luxurious, with full and thick padding. The rear seats are upgraded both in shape and material, matching the front seats in leather-wrapped aviation headrests. Front and rear seats are equipped with power adjustment, ventilation, heating, and massage for a more comfortable ride.
In terms of space, the all-new Magotan is equipped with the most storage spaces in its class and a large 520L trunk space. The rear seats can also be folded down proportionally to increase overall space utilization, meeting the diverse needs of family travel.
In terms of power, the all-new generation of Magotan is equipped with two power systems: 1.5T and 2.0T. The 1.5T model replaces the old 1.4T model, with a maximum output power of 118 kilowatts. The 2.0T model continues to use the current Magotan’s third-generation EA888 engine, with a maximum output power of 162 kilowatts. As for the transmission, it still matches the engine with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, but it has been upgraded with a new gear shifting method that is easier to operate, enhancing the technological feel.
