Shenzhen and Jinan to launch driverless buses. According to Shenzhen News Network, Shenzhen Bus Group plans to promote 20 driverless buses in Qianhai this year. The Fifth Branch of the Bus Group has been approved to operate 4 driverless bus routes including B998 line; after the routes are opened, citizens can make online reservations through the “Shenba Travel” mini program. It is reported that the approved B998 line and other 4 driverless bus routes are expected to officially open at the end of July, with a fare of 1 yuan (0$). This will be the first driverless bus route operated by a bus operating company in Shenzhen.

Not only Shenzhen, but also Jinan will soon open driverless buses. According to China Shandong Network, on July 14, Jinan introduced its first driverless bus for map collection. Jinan will introduce a total of 4 driverless buses. After completing map collection, the first driverless bus will undergo 240 hours or 1000 kilometers of road testing before entering the demonstration application phase. On July 3, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other departments jointly released the list of pilot cities for the integrated application of intelligent connected vehicles and road-cloud integration. A total of 20 cities were selected, including Shenzhen and Jinan. Driverless technology is speeding up in public transportation. Recently, Baidu’s “Robo Run” has become popular online, drawing attention to driverless technology in public transportation. Robo Run’s driverless ride-hailing service has seen a significant increase in orders in Wuhan, demonstrating the huge potential of driverless technology in public transportation. Currently, Robo Run has opened passenger testing services in 11 cities and conducted fully driverless travel service tests in Beijing, Wuhan, Chongqing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and other cities. Beijing recently solicited opinions on the “Beijing Autonomous Driving Car Regulations,” which aim to support the use of autonomous driving cars in urban public electric bus passenger transport, ride-hailing services, and car rentals. As early as 2022, Shenzhen issued the “Shenzhen Economic Zone Intelligent Connected Vehicle Management Regulations,” issuing a total of 1037 road test and demonstration application notices to 349 intelligent connected vehicles from 19 companies. According to statistics, as of the end of March this year, approximately 20 provinces and cities nationwide have issued policies and regulations related to autonomous driving. Testing and application projects are frequently implemented, with a total of over 20,000 kilometers of test roads opened and a total test mileage exceeding 70 million kilometers.
