Tech News: Tesla USA website now offers “energy upgrade” service for Model Y standard range rear-wheel drive version. Users can pay $1000 or $1600 to increase range by 30 to 50 miles.
In May this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed on social media that the Model Y produced in the past few months has the potential for greater range, which users can unlock at a lower cost. This service validates Musk’s previous statements, allowing owners to pay a fee to increase their vehicle’s range. It is worth noting that Tesla’s range data is based on “internal modeling” and not EPA official test results, so actual range still needs to wait for official confirmation. Meanwhile, the price range of the Model Y in the domestic market is from 249,900 to 354,900 yuan (48830$), with no standard range version available at the moment, nor has the “energy upgrade” service been launched. The CLTC working condition range of the rear-wheel drive version of the Model Y currently available in China is 554 kilometers, similar to the long-range rear-wheel drive version in the US market.
