He said Trump has attacked their state, their industry, and American auto workers for months. Trump claims to oppose electric vehicles. Earlier, Musk announced his support for Trump in the upcoming election. Later that month, reports surfaced that Musk planned to donate about $45 million monthly to a new pro-Trump organization. However, both Musk and Trump denied any commitment to such donations.
Trump has long opposed electric vehicles. He criticized the electric vehicle policies from Democratic President Biden. Recently, he stated he would support electric vehicles. At a weekend event, Trump said, “I support electric vehicles. I must do this because Musk strongly supports me. I have no other choice.” He added that he only supports “a small number” of electric vehicles. He said, “You can buy gasoline cars. You can buy hybrid cars. You can buy any car you can imagine.” The UAW previously announced support for Harris’s campaign. After Biden stepped aside, Harris recently became the Democratic presidential candidate.
