Lucid Group CEO Peter Rawlinson recently praised his company’s technology on social media. He highlighted Lucid’s advantages over competitors. In recent months, Rawlinson emphasized that Lucid leads Tesla and others, especially in battery efficiency and range. In a new LinkedIn post, he shared insights on how Lucid will continue to surpass Tesla and other electric vehicle rivals. He stated, “Efficiency is crucial for making better, lighter, more spacious cars with longer ranges. It directly impacts manufacturing costs. Thus, efficiency is the most effective standard for measuring a company’s EV core technology capability.” He noted that Lucid’s Air Pure achieves 5 miles per kilowatt-hour, equivalent to 146 MPGe, making it the most efficient production car to date. “Lucid has a significant advantage in electric vehicle technology. If the closest competitor maintains their development pace, it will take them many years to catch up to today’s Lucid.”
Rowlinson once served as Tesla’s chief engineer. He sparred online with Tesla CEO Elon Musk multiple times. His recent comments on technology may escalate this conflict. Musk often downplays Rowlinson’s role at Tesla. He especially minimizes Rowlinson’s contributions to the Model S. Lucid faces cash problems as its losses grow. Musk has repeatedly warned that Lucid could go bankrupt. He mocks Rowlinson’s high salary at Lucid, suggesting it does not match performance. Lucid’s technology impresses in terms of efficiency metrics. However, the company’s sales fall short of initial projections. It lags far behind Tesla in this area. A Teslarati report states that several Model 3 versions are more efficient than Rowlinson’s charts indicate. For example, the Model 3 RWD standard version achieves 132 MPGe. The report also suggests the Model 3 long-range RWD may show strong efficiency.
