Aug 22, 2024

Tesla Recalls 9,100 Model X SUVs Over Roof Trim Detachment Concerns

This recall only involves the 2016 Model X SUV. Tesla stated that in July 2016, its supplier changed the production process to prevent this issue in later models. After the recall, Tesla will test the roof trim’s adhesion and reinstall it if necessary, at no cost to owners. Tesla also mentioned that since 2022, it has studied problem reports from previously recalled vehicles and conducted aging tests, including heat and humidity tests. The conclusion showed that the 2020 recall remedy was insufficient to detect roof trim that might detach due to a lack of primer. Tesla claims it has received about 170 reports and claims possibly related to this issue, but no crash or injury reports linked to the recall problem have surfaced. This recall marks a rare physical vehicle recall for Tesla, as the company usually resolves issues through wireless software updates. According to data from recall management platform Bizzycar, Tesla recalled nearly 2.6 million vehicles in the U.S. this year due to safety issues, second only to Ford, which recalled about 3.6 million vehicles in the U.S.
