Recently, many new energy vehicles have launched. Their prices keep dropping. Online, the value of traditional joint venture cars seems to decline. Is this true? To find out, we visited a FAW Toyota dealership one afternoon. We wanted to see the market for their main models.
We chose to visit the dealership around 2 PM on Wednesday. We expected a quiet weekday, but the store was busy. Five or six groups of people looked at cars and negotiated prices. More customers continued to arrive. The in-person activity surpassed online engagement. The 4S store had a wide range of models. They featured the Asian Dragon, Corolla, Crown Land, Grevia, RAV4, and the new Prado. However, customers showed the most interest in the Grevia, RAV4, and Asian Dragon.
The delivery area has many new cars. The main models are various configurations of the Grevia and a few Asian Dragons. Many families come to see the cars. They often bring children and elderly members. The large 7-seat MPV is a popular choice for consumers now.
The Asian Dragon sells well. The top models are the 2.0 HEV Luxury and 2.0 HEV Premium. The dealership has plenty of stock, mostly in silver and white. Currently, new cars offer around 40,000 yuan (5630$) in cash discounts. The 2.0 HEV Luxury costs about 190,000 yuan (26740$) after discounts. The 2.0 HEV Premium costs over 200,000 yuan (28150$). Customers can also receive up to 6,000 yuan (840$) in trade-in subsidies. If buyers show genuine interest, there is room for negotiation on the price.
The Crown Land offers ample stock. The showroom displays the 2024 2.5L HEV all-wheel drive luxury model, priced at 299,800 yuan (42190$). Sales staff say that with financing, the final price is about 280,000 yuan (39410$). This means a discount of around 40,000 yuan (5630$).
We asked about the new Prado’s price. The sales representative said there are no discounts. If you order, you must wait two months to pick it up.
