On August 30, the new MG MG5 debuted at the Chengdu Auto Show. The display cars have arrived at MG showrooms and 4S stores nationwide. We visited a 4S store to see the car up close.
The MG5 measures 4715mm in length, 1842mm in width, and 1473mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2680mm, classifying it as a compact sedan. The design follows MG’s emotional aesthetics. It features the latest “Hunter Eye” design language. The headlights resemble the vertical pupils of felines. They look sharp, dynamic, and strong.
The MG5 continues the family’s coupe style. The fastback design features a lowered front. The small ducktail at the rear enhances its sleek look. The overall shape is long and smooth. The dual chrome exhaust pipes emphasize sportiness and power.
The design features a sleek back. The interior offers ample space. The rear seating leads its class in space. The rear seats fold down completely. The trunk holds a non-full-size spare tire. It provides a decent capacity of 398L. However, the trunk opening feels slightly small.
The new car features the latest generation “Blue Core” 1.5T high-power engine and a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. It delivers a maximum power of 133 kW and a peak torque of 285 N·m. The 0 to 100 km/h time is 6.95 seconds. The power performance is strong under 100,000. The chassis includes a front MacPherson independent suspension and a rear torsion beam non-independent suspension. Some models offer the XDS corner dynamic control system, the EPS-PRO intelligent adjustable steering system, and a variable cross-section rear suspension.
Get inside the car. The interior features the largest soft padding in its class. It also has the biggest sunroof in its class. The seats and doors have red stitching. This creates a strong sporty feel. Driving enthusiasts will love it.
In terms of intelligence, the front central console features a T-shaped design. It includes a 12.3-inch instrument display and a 12.3-inch floating central screen. The system offers 360-degree surround view. It uses the Zebra Venus smart vehicle system, which operates smoothly. Below the central screen, a row of physical buttons controls functions like front and rear defrosting and volume adjustment. The display model has not activated the login yet, so I could not experience more software features. However, it supports mainstream smartphone connectivity like CarPlay, HiCar, CarLife, and CarLink.
The MG5 once became the first coupe for young people with its “80,000 trend run, seize youth.” Now, the upgraded MG5 is about to launch. We can expect its price and market performance. Friends interested in this car can visit a 4S store for a hands-on experience.
