Kawasaki announced on September 8 the launch of its new Ninja 500 and Z500 motorcycles. The starting prices are 45,800 yuan (6430$) and 44,800 yuan (6290$), respectively. The release of these models marks Kawasaki’s further development in the mid-weight motorcycle sector.

The new Ninja 500 and Z500 feature Kawasaki’s next-generation 451cc twin-cylinder engine. This engine maintains the original bore but increases the stroke and optimizes the balance shaft for better vibration suppression. The new engine adjusts the compression ratio to 11.3:1. The output curve changes boost the domestic version’s maximum power to 38.3 kW at 10,000 rpm and maximum torque to 42.6 N·m at 7,500 rpm. These improvements aim for smoother power delivery and lighter clutch operation. The bike’s smooth slipper clutch system helps new riders adapt quickly.

The Ninja 500 features Kawasaki’s family design language. Its headlight draws inspiration from the ZX-6R. The LED modules are more compact. The new model introduces a new taillight design. It offers three versions: standard, SE, and 40th Anniversary limited edition. The SE and 40th Anniversary editions include TFT color LCD display, KIPASS keyless start, Type C charging port, LED turn signals, and tank guard.

The Z500 comes in standard and SE versions. The SE version includes an engine guard, a radiator guard, LED turn signals, a Type C charging port, and a TFT color display.

The Ninja 500 and Z500 feature an upright front fork and a Uni Trak rear shock with adjustable preload. The brake system includes a 310mm semi-floating front disc with dual-piston calipers and a 220mm rear disc with dual-piston calipers. They also have dual-channel ABS.
