On September 23, BYD launched the Sea Lion 05 DM-i. It offers four models. Prices range from 112,800 to 142,800 yuan (20330$). The new car features BYD’s latest fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid technology. It achieves low energy consumption and long range.
The Sea Lion 05 DM-i continues the “ocean aesthetic” design concept. It features a wide front grille with chrome accents arranged in a matrix pattern on both sides. The vehicle has a floating roof design. Metal trim surrounds the windows. The new car measures 4710mm in length, 1880mm in width, and 1720mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2712mm.
The new car features a full LCD instrument panel and a 15.6-inch rotating central control screen. It runs on the BYD DiLink smart connectivity system. The car has a flat-bottom, four-spoke steering wheel. The gear shift area uses a round design. The crystal gear lever looks very refined. Surrounding the gear lever, a ring of physical buttons offers essential functions. These include the start button, electric/hybrid switch, electronic handbrake, volume control, and air conditioning settings. The top model provides a 50W wireless charging slot for the driver’s side phone. Additionally, the new car comes standard with a USB Type A port, a 60W Type C charging port, a phone NFC key, and BYD smart cloud services.
The new car features sporty front seats with integrated headrests. Both the driver and passenger seats support multi-directional electric adjustments. This design enhances comfort. The car also includes a panoramic sunroof with an electric sunshade. The driver’s seat adjusts in eight ways, while the passenger’s seat adjusts in four ways. The panoramic sunroof measures 1.2 square meters. The trunk offers a volume of 407 liters, expandable to 1,430 liters.
The new car features BYD’s fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid technology. It uses a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with a maximum power of 74 kW. The vehicle includes the EHS electric hybrid system and a dedicated blade battery. The motor delivers a maximum power of 120 kW. The car offers battery capacities of 12.9 kWh and 18.3 kWh. The CLTC comprehensive pure electric range is 75 km and 115 km, respectively. The NEDC fuel consumption in low battery mode is 3.79 L/100 km. Additionally, the vehicle supports 3.3 kW external discharge.
