On September 23, the Dongfeng Fengshen L7 EV launched. It costs 109,900 to 139,900 yuan (19910$). The new car shares the same exterior and interior as the extended-range version. It offers a pure electric range of 518 km.
I did not expect the Dongfeng Fengshen L7 electric model to be cheaper than the extended-range version. The extended-range version costs 128,900 to 156,900 yuan (22330$). Even the base model of the electric version includes useful features like electric seat adjustments, a 360-degree camera, and cruise control. If comfort features are not a priority, the base electric model is sufficient.
The pure electric version has two models. Both offer a range of 518 km. Compared to the popular Yuan PLUS in the compact electric SUV market, the lowest configuration of the Dongfeng Fengshen L7 costs less and provides an additional 88 km of range. In this regard, the new car offers high cost performance.
The new car does not differ in appearance or interior from the extended-range model. It maintains the design style of new energy vehicles.
The new car features fast charging. It takes 28 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%. This means you can add 9 km of range in one minute. The car also supports a 3.3 kW power output. This helps when camping outdoors and facing power shortages.
Summary Dongfeng’s models focus on value for money. The newly launched electric model follows this principle. Compared to the Yuan PLUS and Galaxy E5, the Fengshen L7 EV has a lower price and a longer range. However, the brand’s influence is weak. This results in monthly sales of the Fengshen L7 extended range model being under 4,000 units. What do you think of the new car’s performance?
