Wenyan Zhixing partners with Uber. They will launch the first batch of self-driving cars on the Uber platform in the UAE. On September 25, 2024, Wenyan Zhixing announced the strategic partnership with Uber Technologies, Inc. Both companies will work together to advance the deployment of self-driving vehicles on the Uber platform.
Uber’s Senior Vice President of Mobility Operations, Andrew Macdonald, and WeRide’s Senior Vice President, Zhong Hua, signed the strategic cooperation agreement. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and WeRide founder and CEO Han Xu witnessed the signing. The agreement states that both parties will launch their cooperation in Abu Dhabi, UAE, by the end of this year. After the launch, local passengers can choose WeRide’s autonomous vehicles as a new option in the Uber App. Notably, this cooperation does not involve the U.S. and Chinese markets.
Last July, WeRide obtained the UAE’s first and only national-level autonomous driving road test license. This license allows testing and operation of autonomous vehicles on public roads across the UAE. Currently, WeRide operates the largest fleet of autonomous taxis in the UAE. Local residents can use the TXAI App to access autonomous taxi services. With the recent partnership with Uber, WeRide’s Robotaxi service will expand its reach in Abu Dhabi.
