According to BYD’s official data, as of August this year, the cumulative sales of the Song family have exceeded 1.67 million units. The Song family ranks at the top of the A-class new energy SUV market in both attention and sales. It has achieved full coverage from DM-i hybrid to pure EV. Among the models in the Song family, I believe they all perform equally in quality and intelligence. However, if I must choose the most attractive one, I think the BYD Song L stands out.
BYD Song L launched recently. It stands out with rich features and excellent intelligence. It has gained a place in the hearts of the public. Its stunning design earned it the title of the most beautiful B-class pioneer SUV in the BYD Dynasty network. At the 2024 Chengdu Auto Show, BYD unveiled the 2025 Song L EV. The new model features upgrades in appearance and interior details. Most importantly, it includes the DiPilot 100 “God’s Eye” advanced driving assistance system. This addition addresses the previous lack of high-level intelligent driving.
The BYD Song L series features a sleek and dynamic design. It adds new exterior colors. The model incorporates elements of a shooting brake. Its low, wide body exudes sportiness. This design marks the first use of such elements in the BYD Dynasty lineup. The 2025 version shows little change in appearance. I believe it doesn’t need to change. It already looks great.
The front grille features a sharp design. The dragon face design with 3D dragon whiskers looks very three-dimensional. The dragon whisker-shaped daytime running lights stretch across the front. This design is highly recognizable. The narrow LED headlights match the proportions of the front. The new car adds an aurora blue color option.
The new car’s dimensions match the current model. The 2930 mm wheelbase provides ample interior space. The frameless door design adds elegance. The double-layered laminated glass enhances cabin quietness. The slight coupe design gives the rear a fuller appearance.
The biggest highlight at the rear of the car is the new electric tail wing. You can open or close the wing using the car’s screen or voice control. It also has an automatic mode. The wing rises when the speed reaches 90 km/h, increasing downforce at high speeds. The tail lights, shaped like Chinese knots, serve as a unique identifier for BYD’s Dynasty series.
The 2025 Song L EV features the DiPilot 100 “God’s Eye” advanced intelligent driving assistance system. This system employs visual perception technology. It places high-definition cameras in multiple locations, including the front of the side mirrors, the side of the fenders, and inside the front windshield. The layout includes 5 high-precision millimeter-wave radars, 2 front cameras, 1 rear camera, 4 side cameras, 4 surround cameras, 1 DMS camera, and 12 ultrasonic radars. In total, it has 29 sensors.
This system uses a central computing platform. The vehicle manufacturer designs and produces it. It enhances driving safety and convenience on highways, urban roads, and parking lots. It offers features like driving assistance, parking assistance, and safety support. We will experience these in detail later.
The new car features a front double wishbone and rear independent suspension. It includes the Yun Nian-C intelligent damping body control system. Official data shows a 96% vibration isolation rate at 60 km/h on pulse roads. At 100 km/h, the pitch angle during braking decreases by 28.5%. The roll angle speed during lane changes also drops by 41.2%. Overall, the car’s stability and agility improve significantly. Dynamic performance enhances.
The four-wheel drive model features exclusive 20-inch five-spoke wheels. It uses a staggered width design to enhance tire grip. The custom gold four-piston calipers deliver good braking performance. The brake feel remains linear during driving. The braking response improves by 20% compared to floating calipers. The drilled vented discs have a high thermal capacity. Their heat dissipation surpasses standard discs by about 21%. This makes the 2025 Song L EV’s braking exceptional, with a stopping distance of under 36 meters at 100 kilometers.
New interior color options and upgraded voice control Entering the 2025 BYD Song L EV, you notice less shiny chrome. The design features large areas of suede. The minimalist interior feels sporty and showcases high-quality craftsmanship. The model offers multi-color ambient lighting and a fragrance system. Wilderness Gray is exclusive to the all-wheel-drive version. The 2025 model also adds a new color: Void Gray.
The design around the cutting-style barrier includes common buttons. Those familiar with BYD models will recognize them. A 50-watt wireless charging panel for phones sits in front. The car features four screens: a 15.6-inch HD central control screen, a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel, a 5.8-inch rear air conditioning control screen, and a 50-inch AR-HUD head-up display. This setup highlights the car’s luxury and technology.
The latest car UI desktop and secondary menu look very neat. Users can quickly adapt and start using them. They can download a variety of apps from the app market. The 2025 model features an upgraded voice assistant. It responds in as fast as 400 milliseconds. Over 1,000 core vehicle control functions enhance driving convenience. Users can switch modes, raise or lower the electric tail wing, and select driving modes using voice commands. The four-zone recognition meets the precise needs of different passengers. Continuous dialogue works in all scenarios. One wake-up can recognize multiple commands. The assistant can distinguish between casual conversation and vehicle control commands. It does not interrupt normal communication and responds promptly.
The seats offer great comfort. Both front and rear seats perform well. The front seats support electric adjustment, heating, and ventilation. They also include massage and a boss button. The rear seatbacks have a specific shape that supports the back. The seatbacks can fully recline to expand the cargo space. The large electric tailgate makes it easy to access items.
DiPilot 100 “God’s Eye” calibration improves vehicle handling. The 2025 Song L EV benefits from the e-platform 3.0 development. It performs well in driving feel and handling. The vehicle uses a front asynchronous motor and a rear permanent magnet synchronous motor. This power combination delivers strong performance. During acceleration, both motors work together. The system achieves a maximum output of 380 kW and a peak torque of 670 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. Even in comfort mode, pressing the accelerator slightly still provides good acceleration.
I experienced the tuning of the DiPilot 100 “Eye of the God” advanced intelligent driving assistance system as quite aggressive. It acts decisively. In navigation mode, I can activate high-speed pilot mode by moving the steering wheel’s smart drive lever. In this mode, the vehicle can automatically select lanes, change lanes, and manage on/off ramps. When executing these commands, the system makes quick decisions. It changes lanes even with small distances between cars, showing timing similar to an experienced driver.
When the vehicle encounters a slow car ahead, it automatically changes to the adjacent lane and overtakes. The action is smooth and seamless. It also prepares well for on and off ramps, changing to the far right lane in advance and decelerating smoothly. If a car cuts in ahead, the vehicle does not brake suddenly. Instead, it slows down gradually or looks for an opportunity to change lanes and overtake. Overall, I find the smart driving adjustments quite comfortable.
The remote parking function builds on automatic parking. It connects to the vehicle via Bluetooth on a smartphone. After selecting a parking space on the car’s interface, the driver can leave the vehicle. The driver confirms parking on the smartphone. The system then controls the vehicle to park or exit the space. This effectively addresses challenges in tight parking situations or inconvenient entry and exit scenarios.
Summary: The 2025 Song L EV upgrades its appearance and features. It adds the DiPilot 100 advanced driving assistance system. This system fills the gap left by previous Song L models. The car is now available for purchase. Surprisingly, the new model’s price remains the same as the 2024 version. This shows BYD’s strong commitment to users. If you are satisfied with this car, go for it.
