In the past six months, Li Auto held three major events: the July summer conference on smart driving, the October Chengdu Auto Show, and the November Guangzhou Auto Show. Each event focused on smart driving, smart space, and active safety. Li Auto shared updates and future plans in these areas. Most automakers see smart driving and smart space as key factors in the race for intelligence. These areas strongly influence consumer perception and become crucial factors in purchasing decisions. However, Li Auto elevates active safety to the same level as smart driving and smart space, highlighting its commitment to safety. At the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, Li Auto announced that by the end of November, it would become the first company to fully implement parking-to-parking smart driving. The company also introduced two new active safety features: rear automatic emergency braking and rear unintended acceleration suppression.
“Safety is the cornerstone of experience,” said Fan Haoyu, Senior Vice President of Ideal Automobile’s Product Department, as he introduced active safety. The R-AEB function covers targets within a 100-degree range behind the vehicle and operates across all speed ranges. The R-MAI function extends R-AEB capabilities. It addresses extreme scenarios, such as sharp-angle reversing. If a driver accidentally presses the accelerator while reversing and encounters a pedestrian, R-MAI will urgently remind the driver to release the accelerator. It will also cut power and automatically brake. These two new active safety features will significantly reduce the common occurrence of reversing collisions in daily life.
Before developing comprehensive active safety capabilities, Li Auto analyzed nearly one million user feedback cases of real safety hazards. They categorized these cases by frequency and severity. This effort led to the creation of the industry’s first high-frequency, high-risk driving scenario database. This database serves as a compass for Li Auto’s exploration of active safety limits. They have shared this database multiple times to showcase their safety capabilities. Li Auto continuously upgrades active safety capabilities to focus on user value. Before the OTA 6.5 update, which enhances safety features, Li Auto already achieved several leading functions. They launched the industry’s first full-speed active AEB, fully automatic emergency steering (AES), city intersection multi-directional AEB, and AEB that can stop at 120 km/h in complete darkness. While most consumers and the market remained unaware, Li Auto persisted in upgrading active safety.
In late July, Li Auto launched the fully automatic steering AES feature. This expands active safety capabilities in both lateral and longitudinal dimensions. It upgrades traditional emergency braking to “slowing down while steering,” addressing scenarios where stopping is impossible. A typical trigger scenario occurs on highways when a vehicle suddenly disappears. If the lead vehicle encounters an obstacle and makes an emergency lane change, Li Auto can use AES to avoid the obstacle when AEB cannot stop in time. This addresses low-frequency, high-risk situations. Third-party media tested this feature in 20 different scenarios. AES achieved 100% triggering, demonstrating stable functionality. Li Auto plans to enhance continuous avoidance capabilities. They aim to enable AES to handle secondary risks and respond to close-cutting scenarios, ghost vehicles, and various extreme driving situations. In late August, OTA 6.2 introduced comprehensive low-speed AEB. This feature targets high-frequency, low-risk scenarios that consumers frequently encounter. At low speeds, especially in parking garages, obstacles like pillars and curbs often appear. Low-speed AEB can prevent minor collisions with a 360-degree view, ensuring the safety of other road users and reducing unnecessary repair costs. By the end of Q3, Li Auto had invested over 8.6 billion yuan this year. They focus on self-developing core technologies to continually upgrade smart driving, smart space, and vehicle safety. These investments translate into real user value. Li Auto’s active safety has helped users avoid over 3.6 million traffic accidents, including more than 600 severe potential accidents in the past six months. Each avoided severe accident may save multiple families’ happiness.
For safety, Ideal Auto believes in “not settling for rote learning.” Ideal Auto aims to create products that are “safer, more convenient, more comfortable, and more refined,” with safety as the top priority. In developing vehicle performance and functions, safety remains the first priority. During the development of active and passive safety technologies and software and hardware functions, Ideal Auto’s safety standards exceed industry standards. Currently, the industry has over 50 publicly developed testing scenarios. Ideal Auto’s standards for full-scene crash testing include over 90 scenarios, nearly double the industry standard. In today’s fiercely competitive automotive market, Ideal Auto stands out with its exceptional active safety capabilities. From development principles that exceed industry standards to comprehensive active safety technologies and a user-centered safety philosophy, Ideal Auto has created a multi-layered safety protection system for consumers.
