Mazda 6 debuted at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show. It marked a significant model for Mazda in the 21st century. The car thrived in Japan and gained global popularity. However, as the era of new energy arrives, Mazda’s brand influence in the domestic market declined. Before hitting rock bottom, Mazda developed a strategy. They chose to collaborate deeply with Changan. This partnership allows them to share the mature and reliable EPA hybrid platform technology. Together, they launched the new mid-size car—Mazda EZ-6, featuring both extended-range and pure electric power. Can this cooperative strategy create a win-win situation? This issue of “Quality Car Selection” will analyze the details. I. Basic Information and Product Highlights
Mazda launched the EZ-6 with seven configurations. It includes four extended-range models and three pure electric versions. Prices range from 139,800 to 179,800 yuan (24760$). The launch also introduces eight EZ exclusive gift packages. These packages include renewal gifts, safety gifts, and upgrade gifts.
Mazda’s “Kodo” design language stands out. It combines dynamic style with a strong sense of luxury. The front features “wing of light” grille lights. The arrangement of the glowing units creates an impressive lighting effect. The front bumper exudes sportiness. Vertical air ducts on both sides enhance its fierce look. The Mazda EZ-6 retains the brand’s sporty DNA. It boasts a 50:50 weight distribution, aluminum multi-link rear suspension, and Bosch’s integrated braking system. This setup ensures excellent handling. The vehicle offers two power options: range-extended and pure electric. The range-extended model features a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine and a rear-mounted single motor. Depending on the configuration, the CLTC pure electric range reaches 130km or 200km. The pure electric model uses a single motor drive system. The motor delivers 190kW of power and 320N·m of torque. It comes with lithium iron phosphate batteries of 56.1kWh and 68.8kWh, offering CLTC ranges of 480km and 600km, respectively. Inside, the minimalist interior design aligns with current trends. The vehicle also excels in features. It includes a 10.1-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 14.6-inch floating LCD central screen, standard across all models. The voice control system supports four-zone wake recognition, continuous speech recognition, and visible speech activation. The onboard system runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, ensuring smooth operation. For safety, Mazda claims the EZ-6 body consists of 86% high-strength steel. The body steel reaches a strength of up to 2000Mpa, while the high-strength cold-rolled steel beam achieves 1500Mpa. Additionally, the vehicle features a 3C ultra-fast charging battery and 19+ active safety driving assistance systems. All models come standard with nine airbags.
