WeRide’s new Robotaxi, GXR, starts commercial operations in Beijing. On February 24, 2025, authorities approved GXR for “driverless” ride-hailing services. The service covers key areas in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, including major train stations. GXR is WeRide’s second fully autonomous Robotaxi in Beijing. It follows the launch on the Uber platform in Abu Dhabi last December. GXR also operates on highways, including routes to Beijing Daxing International Airport.
On October 15, 2024, Wenyan Zhixing launched the new generation Robotaxi model—GXR. Just four months later, the company achieved rapid progress from product launch to fully autonomous commercial operation. This once again showcased the “Wenyan speed” in Robotaxi commercialization.
GXR is the result of over five years of deep development by WeRide in the Robotaxi field. It features industry-leading L4 level capabilities for fully autonomous commercial operation on public roads. The design includes a redundant line-controlled chassis, spacious mobility options, and the world’s first hidden B-pillar. GXR prioritizes passenger safety and experience. It accommodates up to five passengers with the widest entry and exit space, optimal seating, and ample luggage storage. This design meets the travel needs of citizens visiting friends and family, as well as trips to airports and train stations. It truly offers more space and comfort for all five seats.
As the only autonomous driving technology company to commercialize Robotaxi operations in China and abroad, WeRide integrates Robotaxi services into daily life in cities like Guangzhou, Beijing, Nanjing, Ordos, Suzhou, and Abu Dhabi. In the second quarter of 2025, WeRide will launch fully unmanned Robotaxi operations in Zurich, Switzerland. Additionally, WeRide partners with Uber to establish the largest commercial Robotaxi fleet in the Middle East.
In Beijing, WeRide launched its fully autonomous Robotaxi service in June 2023. With the commercial rollout of the new GXR Robotaxi, WeRide will expand its service range and scale. By 2025, the number of Robotaxis in Beijing will increase to hundreds. This will provide high-quality, efficient smart travel services to more citizens and visitors.
