Last year, SUVs underwent a transformation with the “boxy” design. When “family” and “off-road” features merge in a boxy model, the result is fascinating. The Deep Blue G318 is one such model. This year, at the Deep Blue all-scenario intelligent driving solution launch, a new member of the G318 family emerged. Today, we test the Deep Blue G318 Wuyou Chuanjue version. Where does it excel? The answer lies in its name. It aims for adventure while ensuring peace of mind. What capabilities does it offer? It’s tougher, yet more cyber.
The design of the Deep Blue G318 aims for a rugged look. The Deep Blue G318 Worry-Free Off-Road Edition retains the original G318’s strong profile. It adds off-road style details, enhancing its tech-savvy toughness. This version reduces the original G318’s delicate appearance. With the exclusive sunlit gold color, the style becomes younger and more vibrant.
The “Battleship’s Might” front style is bold. The front bumper shows a strong off-road design. The closed grille no longer features a minimalist design like the standard G318. Instead, it adds multiple diagonal lines, enhancing its rugged look. The lower front shape curves inward. This new design increases the approach angle by one degree compared to the regular G318 model.
The bumper features retractable front tow hooks on both sides. Each hook can handle 5 tons of force. This adds depth and strength to the G318 model, which initially appears minimalistic.
The engine cover features black plastic parts. It houses a docking station. This station includes two standard threaded interfaces and a reserved power modification port. Outdoor users find it very useful.
The side of the car shows no significant changes. The rear of the front fender adds a grille-like trim for a more aggressive look. The lower part features an all-aluminum running board. The waistline and roofline create sharp angles that enhance the sense of power. The new car measures 5125mm in length, 2025mm in width, and 1950mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2880mm and a track width that is 40mm wider than the G318. The ground clearance reaches 240mm.
The G318 worry-free version features roof-mounted spotlights. It has high beams on both sides and a camping light in the center. The lighting area exceeds 250 square meters. This configuration is also available for standard models. The roof rack supports a static load of 300 kg and a dynamic load of 80 kg.
The rear of the vehicle features multiple muscular lines. The upper part includes a tail wing. The external spare tire has a cover, adding a tech-savvy look. This design is better than the previous exposed spare tire, which resembled a five-blade propeller. The light group has changed, and the rear bumper shape is different. The tow hook now hides away but still supports a towing capacity of 1.6 tons.
The test car features wheels with triangular elements. The model we tested uses Continental’s CROSS CONTACT AX6 tires. These tires align well with the car’s off-road capabilities while ensuring good on-road performance. The cabin emphasizes comfort and ease.
The interior design shows little change. The rugged, futuristic design highlights its identity as a tough SUV. Designers added handles in several places. They kept many physical buttons to enhance the rugged feel. In terms of materials, the new car features many silver accents. It uses a lot of soft materials. Most surfaces you can touch are soft.
The 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel features good colors and resolution. It supports easy switching between multiple themes. It includes a dedicated interface for new energy power. This interface shows energy flow and pure electric range information.
The 14.6-inch central control screen features an embedded design. The screen offers good smoothness and display quality. Touch and drag responses are flexible. The built-in system UI maintains the basic style of a bottom tray and a left-side information tree, along with common shortcut keys. The entire UI remains clean. The car’s AI enhances functionality, delivering a high level of intelligence.
The smart driving section received a small upgrade. It added the Deepal AD Pro version on top of the mainstream L2-level assistance system. Smart driving navigation and intelligent navigation assistance are now available. This marks the official introduction of smart driving in vehicles.
You can find real-time off-road information in the car’s system.
The panoramic imaging feature that comes with the camera is a practical off-road option.
The driver’s seat is wide and thick. It has the expected thickness and size for this class of vehicle. The leather surface feels great. The vertical stitching looks high-end. The seat offers many functions. It includes electric adjustment, heating, and ventilation. The front seats also provide electric lumbar support and a massage feature.
The large size makes the five-seat layout more spacious. The rear seats match the front seats. They use the same materials, enhancing comfort for passengers. The seat cushions are long enough. The backrests adjust for better support. Each of the three wide seats has its own headrest.
Since there are no worries, the focus is on comfort. All seats provide ventilation, heating, and massage. Everyone enjoys the same treatment.
The left-side tailgate opens upwards. It has lift buttons on the inner side. When you place heavy items, the vehicle lowers for easier loading. The trunk has a standard volume of 810L. Our test car’s second-row seats fold down in a 4/6 ratio. Folding both rows expands the space to 1747L.
For camping, the trunk includes a 3300-watt 220V power outlet. This outlet meets various power needs. It can supply high power for appliances like coffee machines, induction cookers, and projectors. Long-distance travel remains reliable.
The Deep Blue G318 Worry-Free Edition features a range-extended power system. It uses a 1.5T engine as the extender. The vehicle has dual motors for all-wheel drive. The front motor delivers a maximum power of 131 kW. The rear motor provides a maximum power of 185 kW. The total system power reaches 316 kW. The CLTC pure electric range is 190 km.
Thanks to super extended-range technology’s “more efficiency, more comfort, more safety,” the system supports pure electric, series, engine direct drive, idle power generation, and energy recovery modes. Daily driving feels like a pure electric vehicle. The super extended-range generator achieves top-tier power generation efficiency. Fuel economy is not a concern.
The driving modes include economy, comfort, sport, and custom. The energy management strategies offer city, mountain, and highway options. These cover all power demand scenarios. This hybrid system, like most range extenders, focuses on efficiency while ensuring power surplus. It aims to save both electricity and fuel. However, with battery discharge increased to 3C, its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration shortens to 5.9 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds faster than the standard G318.
For generating power, the range extender can operate more efficiently. Even in feed mode, the range extender works hard. Excellent NVH prevents the engine’s roar from overwhelming the cabin. During acceleration, noise becomes negligible.
It drives like a pure electric car. It delivers all the performance and power response of an electric vehicle. You don’t need to worry about the connection of the power system when the engine starts. The smart SOC strategy manages energy distribution intelligently. It switches between different driving conditions seamlessly. This ensures optimal energy storage and usage. You can focus on driving while the computer handles the rest.
The double wishbone and multi-link independent suspension is very high-end. It features an active magic carpet system, three levels of adjustable CDC, and three levels of adjustable air suspension. With this powerful setup, the chassis quality remains excellent. The chassis absorbs shocks differently than traditional off-road vehicles. It feels slightly firm yet comfortable. The suspension effectively filters and supports, providing a satisfying ride. You won’t easily notice the different surfaces the tires traverse. It feels like there’s a layer of cushioning. There’s no loose feeling or harsh impacts throughout the ride.
Since it’s a worry-free crossover, it also features all-wheel drive. Besides electric all-wheel drive, it has a central variable differential lock and a magnetic mechanical differential lock. These locks enable smart activation with zero impact and zero delay. It offers five off-road modes: wading, snow, rugged terrain, mud, and sand. Three special scenarios include tight turns, hill descent control, and off-road crawling. It truly levels the playing field in off-road capability.
It clearly isn’t a powerful off-road vehicle meant for climbing or muddy play. It offers users a simple route for off-roading. Users can choose based on road conditions without manual adjustments. It handles moderate to challenging off-road conditions easily. The Deep Blue G318 boasts stronger light off-road performance, more energy efficiency, and a refined appearance. It promotes “range extension for off-roading.” The worry-free crossing version we tested expands its recreational capabilities. It fits the profile of an adventurous lifestyle user. This vehicle features an original design and enhances its product appeal. It will be officially launched soon. If you enjoy camping and off-roading, keep an eye on it.
