On April 23, Changan officially launched the Smart New Blue Whale 500Bar at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. They also unveiled the renewal of classic models. The company announced that three classic models—Yidong, CS55PLUS, and UNI-V—will receive the new Blue Whale 500Bar engine.
At the press conference, Yuan Zhixiong, Deputy General Manager of the Changan Brand Division and General Manager of the Gravity Marketing Department, stated, “With the empowerment of Changan Automobile’s Smart New Blue Whale 3.0, the Gravity series will fully enter the diverse power era by 2025. We will continue to launch various power models, including ICE, PHEV, and HEV.” The core technologies from Smart New Blue Whale 3.0, such as the engine, P13 structure hybrid electric drive platform, and Jinzhongzhao 3C supercharging battery 2.0, will provide users with comprehensive power solutions.
Changan Auto has launched its new 500Bar ultra-high-pressure direct injection Blue Whale engine. This engine features an in-cylinder direct injection pressure that is 42.86% higher than the mainstream 350Bar turbocharged engines. The engine’s fuel spray particle size drops to just 6.3 microns. Smaller fuel particles mix better with air, leading to more complete and efficient combustion. This results in stronger power output with less fuel consumption. Additionally, Changan Auto has integrated over ten technologies centered around the 500Bar ultra-high-pressure direct injection system. These include an electric turbocharger, a maintenance-free silent timing chain system, active noise reduction, and idle start-stop optimization. These innovations reduce the tendency for cylinder knock and lessen the impact loads on components like pistons and connecting rods.
The 500Bar ultra-high pressure direct injection new Blue Whale engine delivers a maximum power of 141 kW. It produces a peak torque of 310 N·m, comparable to a 2.5L naturally aspirated engine. At 1500 RPM, it generates 310 N·m of torque. This enhances the vehicle’s strength during start and acceleration.
On April 3, the fourth-generation CS75PLUS, the 2025 third-generation Yidong, the 2025 third-generation CS5PLUS, and the 2025 second-generation UNI-V held a power challenge at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport T3B. They used the new Blue Whale 500Bar power to successfully tow a 60-ton Airbus A320 for 40 meters.
Changan Automobile launched a four-vehicle relay test called “Measuring China’s Coastline.” It started in Dandong, at the northern coast of China. The route passed through Shanhaiguan, the Yellow River, and the Yangtze River estuary, finally reaching Beihai, Guangxi. Over four days, all four vehicles exceeded 1,000 kilometers on a single tank of gas, regardless of tank size, driver, or vehicle weight.
