At the Shanghai Auto Show, which opened on April 23, the Tank brand showcased its self-developed 4.0T V8 engine and the Tank 300 Huke version. Gu Yukun, the brand’s executive vice president, stated, “This is where we officially launched the Tank brand four years ago. In these four years, our global sales exceeded 650,000 units. However, beyond sales figures, we aim to create a unique off-road culture in China and grow together with our users.”
The release of the 4.0T V8 engine marks a significant achievement for Great Wall Motors after 35 years of core technology development. This engine fills a gap for Chinese brands in the large displacement power sector. Tank retains the authentic characteristics of fuel power. It offers Chinese off-road users a powerful and emotionally valuable choice. Tank believes that new energy cannot replace the unique mechanical charm of the 4.0T V8 engine. Another major product is the Tank 300 Hook Edition, developed in collaboration with the renowned off-road destination, the “Hook Road.” The Tank 300 Hook Edition targets extreme off-road capabilities. It serves as a reliable combat vehicle and a lifestyle statement. It embodies the identity and spirit of the hardcore community. This vehicle answers the pursuit of pure off-road experiences and marks the beginning of China’s off-road philosophy on the global stage. This year, the Tank brand will challenge the iconic off-road trails of Rubicon and Moab with the Tank 300 Hook Edition.
At the launch, Tank showcased more realistic “new energy” solutions alongside its 4.0T V8 power. Gu Yukun announced that the Tank 300 diesel version achieved over 120% of its range target during the Beijing-Shanghai expressway challenge. It was the only model to meet the official range standard, with lower energy costs than hybrid and range-extended models. Notably, while the energy cost for pure electric models is 30% less than the Tank 300 diesel’s 655 yuan (90$), their fast charging time is nearly 15 times longer, approaching 2.5 hours. In contrast, the Tank 300 boasts a three-year resale value of 74.48%, ensuring stable hardware value and residual expectations. At the Shanghai Auto Show, Tank displayed comprehensive upgrades across all powertrains, models, and scenarios. The 4.0T V8 engine achieved a core power breakthrough. The Tank 300 Huke version enhanced extreme off-road capabilities, while the 2025 Tank 300 diesel version expanded another new energy solution with improved efficiency. This showcase of multiple core achievements highlights Tank’s ongoing efforts to redefine the position of Chinese brands in the global automotive market.
