Xingtu, Chery’s premium brand, has gained recognition for its vehicle quality and chassis tuning. However, it lacks a competitive price advantage and has not released a best-selling model. To change this, Xingtu will launch a new version of the Xingtu Yaoguang C-DM, named the Global Edition. This model will feature minor adjustments to the exterior and interior. It will also have changes in power and battery configurations to better meet consumer demands. Let’s take a closer look at the details during the early test drive experience.
First, let’s look at the appearance. This version adds new features without major changes. It introduces a two-tone body design. The exterior mirrors and roof receive a black treatment. Overall, it looks younger and sportier.
The front maintains a closed design. It looks simple and sleek. The daytime running lights feature 328 LEDs. Below the headlights, a “D” shaped decoration adds a dynamic touch. The side lines are sharp. The car measures 4781mm in length, 1920mm in width, and 1671mm in height. The wheelbase is 2815mm.
The new car maintains its original design at the rear. The blacked-out taillights connect with the black roof. The dual exhaust outlets add a sporty touch. The rear also features decorative air ducts. Overall, the back of the car looks very sporty.
Inside the car, the overall interior design remains unchanged. However, a new color scheme, Huayan brown, adds a fresh touch. The brown and gray combination creates a warm atmosphere.
The new car features a 24.6-inch full LCD instrument panel and a central multimedia display. It comes with the Lion 5.0 vehicle system, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. The central console includes a continuous air conditioning vent. The cabin design remains simple and elegant.
The powertrain is the key change in the new car. It features a new plug-in hybrid system with a 1.5T engine and a single DHT transmission. Compared to the previous two-wheel drive version with a small battery, this new car has a larger battery. The capacity increases to 19.53 kWh. The CLTC pure electric range rises to 120 km. The official claim states the total range can reach 1400 km.
The new car features the Chery-developed DHT150 hybrid transmission and a P1+P3 motor structure. These upgrades should improve energy consumption. During our test drive, we focused on measuring fuel consumption with low battery. We started with about 20% battery and a full tank. We drove approximately 113 km. Our test vehicle achieved a fuel consumption of about 3.7L/100km. Other test vehicles reached a minimum of 2.81L/100km. This performance is impressive for a mid-size SUV.
The new car features a single-speed DHT transmission. The system’s total power slightly decreases. However, the drive motor’s power increases. Overall, the performance remains strong. The vehicle accelerates quickly from a stop. The throttle response is sharp. Even in the mid to later stages, acceleration remains robust. It provides ample power for daily use. The official test shows the Yao Guang C-DM global version accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in just 7.4 seconds.
The chassis tuning of the Xingtu Yaoguang C-DM Global Edition feels tight. It provides an European car sensation. The vehicle handles bumps well. It maintains stability during turns and over obstacles. The steering wheel feels heavy and precise. The driving experience is satisfying. The front cabin features double-layer soundproof glass. This enhances the quietness inside. It ensures a comfortable ride.
Summary: The Xingtu brand launched the Yaoguang C-DM global version. Its goal is simple: to lower the purchase threshold and operating costs with a more economical and efficient power system. This makes the car more practical and aligns with current consumer demands. The change proves effective. Real-world tests show fuel consumption around 3L per 100 km with a larger battery. This significantly enhances the new car’s practicality while maintaining strong power, good handling, and quality chassis feel. This is impressive.
