On October 24, 2025, China celebrated Programmer’s Day. BMW Information Technology Co., Ltd. officially opened in Nanjing. This new company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Brilliance BMW Automotive Ltd., evolved from the Nanjing branch of Lingyue Digital Information Technology Co., Ltd. It now operates independently. This move accelerates BMW’s digital transformation in China. It also enhances local innovation and strengthens its core technology for future smart mobility.
From a strategic perspective, the new company is one of BMW Group’s six global IT centers. It is the first and only IT center established by the Group in China. It also serves as the largest IT innovation hub in Asia. This triple positioning highlights its core support role in BMW’s global digital system. Ms. Anke Kroll, President and CEO of BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd., emphasized, “BMW has always been a pioneer in digital transformation. The establishment of BMW IT Ltd. will strengthen our digital core capabilities in China. It will enhance quality, optimize efficiency, and drive business innovation across the entire value chain.” Mr. Qi Haifei, CEO of BMW IT Ltd., stated, “In the future, we will leverage China’s innovation strength in digitalization. We will collaborate with Chinese innovators to deepen existing functions in key areas like AI applications and smart manufacturing. We will also take on new missions for the future.” Looking back, Lingyue Nanjing was established in 2021. Its goal is to provide agile and efficient IT services for BMW’s operations in China. To date, it has delivered digital solutions covering R&D, production, supply chain, sales, financial services, and enterprise management for BMW Group in China and some global markets. It is also one of the Group’s three major innovation software companies in China, laying a solid business foundation for the new company’s independent operations.
The new company aims for a more agile and independent operational system. It focuses on AI, AI-assisted development, industrial digital twins, smart manufacturing, and digital technology platforms. The company drives efficiency upgrades through breakthrough technologies. It deepens collaboration among government, enterprises, academia, and research. The company continuously attracts and trains global digital talent. This effort injects energy into the high-quality domestic production of BMW’s new generation models. It further strengthens BMW’s leading position in smart manufacturing and digital R&D in China. The company leverages its strategy of “In China, for the world.” It integrates China’s innovative results into BMW’s global IT network. This promotes deep integration and transformation worldwide.
