On October 20, the Equation Leopard car “Leopard 5 Long Range Version” launched with a price of 269,800 to 329,800 yuan (46310$). The Leopard 8 five-seat version also launched, priced at 379,800 to 407,800 yuan (57260$). This release features upgrades to the DMO platform, ADS 4 from Huawei, and various top-tier core technologies from BYD’s smart ecosystem. It offers comprehensive improvements in range, safety, comfort, and handling.
The Leopard 5 Long Range and Leopard 8 Five-Seater launch with the DMO+ platform. Current Leopard 5 and 8 users will upgrade to DMO+ via OTA. This platform features “full-speed surface perception control technology.” It enhances the existing surface perception control technology to operate at full speed. The vehicle’s torque output and precise control no longer depend on speed or terrain. The Leopard 5 and 8 move beyond just a power mode. They perform better on sand, mud, and rocks at various speeds. The wheels provide more stable and accurate grip. Power output and driving stability improve significantly. Off-road driving becomes easier. The Leopard 5 and Leopard 8 will upgrade to Huawei’s QianKun Intelligent Driving ADS 4. This upgrade marks a major shift from human-like driving to superhuman driving. First, the new WEWA technology architecture will enhance autonomous learning in assisted driving. The more you use it, the smoother it becomes. The parking feature will also upgrade to version 2.0. The Leopard 8 Big Five Edition positions itself as a “rare flagship that understands life.” It focuses on spaciousness and luxury features. The new model increases rear legroom and trunk space. It adds a multi-directional thigh support for the front passenger and rear seats, along with a double-door high-pressure refrigerator. These features highlight its luxurious space and comfort. The exterior now includes a new lake green color, while the interior features a snow-hidden gray. It also sports new wheel designs and smart driving blue lights. The Leopard 5 continues to lead in sales, with nearly 100,000 units sold. It has become the best-selling rugged off-road vehicle and earned titles like “King of Reputation” and “New King of Off-Roading.” The Leopard 8 leads the high-end SUV market at the 400,000 level. Developed by BYD, Huawei, and DJI, it stands as a “rare flagship” in the off-road category. Together, the Leopard 5 and Leopard 8 will help the Pangolin brand reach a sales milestone of 200,000 units by the end of October. This achievement marks an impressive five-month journey from 100,000 to 200,000 units, transforming the once niche rugged “square box” into a mainstream choice.
The Leopard 5 features the “Eye of God” driver assistance system and Huawei Qian Kun Smart Driving ADS 4. It offers full-dimensional active safety. It includes five key passive safety features: 790mm water wading depth, 13-ton load capacity, a body made of 61% high-strength steel and 19% hot-formed steel, a chassis of 100% high-strength steel, a five-layer protective battery pack, and 11 airbags. The safety for drivers and passengers has significantly improved.
The Leopard 8 successfully earned the C-NCAP five-star safety certification. It is the first hybrid non-body-on-frame vehicle in China to achieve this rating.
