On March 27, renowned economist Ren Zeping visited JD Finance to discuss “New Energy Vehicles: A New Investment Trend” with everyone. That day, just before the official launch of the Xiaomi SU 7 car, Ren Zeping predicted: “The base model of the Xiaomi car may be priced at 250,000 yuan (34590$), while the high-end model will be over 300,000 yuan (41510$).” He also urged everyone to “cheer for entrepreneurs like Lei Jun.” Ren Zeping pointed out that as a C-segment car, the pricing of this car will not be too low. Currently, new energy vehicles are mainly concentrated in the A-segment, accounting for 38.5% of the market share of new energy passenger cars, which is the most competitive market.

After launching this car, Ren Zeping predicts: Xiaomi will also launch a B-class car and join more intense competition. “As long as we make products with good intentions, entering the top three is just a matter of time.” He also said: Not investing in new energy now is like not buying a house 20 years ago. “Investing in new energy is never too late.” When it comes to the new energy industry, people are not only concerned about buying cars, but also whether there is an opportunity to make money. Ren Zeping believes that first, we need to see the future economic growth engine clearly: “In the first half of the new energy game, we look at lithium batteries, and in the second half, we look at energy storage, hydrogen energy, and smart driving.” This year’s two sessions report mentioned hydrogen energy for the first time, and Ren Zeping himself has repeatedly called for early layout of hydrogen energy infrastructure, which may bring a new round of investment opportunities. “Lithium + hydrogen = new oil,” Ren Zeping said.
