NIO announced their latest battery rental service, BaaS, on March 14. Monthly rental fees for standard range batteries have been reduced from 980 yuan (140$) to 728 yuan (100$), and for long range batteries from 1680 yuan (230$) to 1128 yuan (160$). Customers can offset the final battery purchase cost with previously paid rent. Each rent payment also comes with a 100 yuan (10$) renewal voucher, which can be used towards a new car purchase. Customers who choose BaaS before May 31 will receive a “pay for 4, get 1 free” offer and 60 free battery exchange vouchers. With these changes, the starting price for the 2014 NIO ES6 has dropped to 268,000 yuan (37090$), making BaaS a more cost-effective option.
